Clarification: Terrorism Act 2000 being used against Blacklisted workers

Northern Voices | 20.10.2009 20:48 | Repression | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | World

The main contractor at Fiddler's Ferry power station in Cheshire - Scottish & Southern Energy - is seeking an injunction under the Terrorism Act 2000 to prevent blacklisted workers from picketing the site.

A hearing is pending in the Royal Courts of Justice, London, tomorrow on Wednesday 21st October at 10.30am, at which Scottish & Southern Energy is applying for an injunction against Steve Acheson, one of the 3 electricians in the class legal action blacklist case against companies affiliated to Ian Kerr's Consulting Association, & also Secretary of the Unite/EPIU Manchester Contracting Branch.

This injunction is being brought under the Terrorism Act 2000 & seeks to show that Steve, as the 1st respondent, & others unnamed [as second respondents], by their constant picketing of the site represent "a threat to the energy supplies of this country". Because this application is being brought under the Terrorism Act 2000, Steve will not be able to defend himself at this hearing, as we understand it, although he has now confirmed representation by Unite. The basis of the application is that by picketing the site he is committing a Trespass because he & others are on the Firm's property; that having issued leaflets to workers on the site calling for 'direct action' he is 'inciting' the workforce to commit acts contrary to the national interest which may impact on energy supplies & that he has, at times, acted in a way that might have intimidated the workforce. There is no mention in the company's deposition to the Court that he was formerly employed by them, nor that his picket represents a campaign against blacklisting. One senior trade union leader in the RMT has already said that if this goes ahead it will have consequences for the whole trade union movement.

Updates will appear on www.northernvoices.blogspot.com as we have them, and we will also post to Indymedia.

New Labour

21.10.2009 16:20

Any of the blacklisted workers who voted for New Labour deserve all they get from this use of the anti-terror law.

Shame on anyone who voted for New Labour. It is the most repressive government we've had for a very long time.

Injunction bid rejected!

The High Court threw out the bid to impose an injunction on Steve Acheson earlier today:

I disagree but maybe I'm older than you. I think it is fairly obvious to anyone paying attention that the past 30 years of government have been indistinguishable in the UK. Thatcher was an evil cunt who sold out the rest of humanity to suck Reagan's seaman, much as Blair was a muppet who sucked Bush's venum while charging us our 'blood-price' expense.

If you can differentiate between Thatcher and Blair it is purely in their posturing towards honesty. Thatcher wasn't elected on the strength of an 'ethical foriegn policy'. Thatcher also slaughtered far fewer than Blair slaughtered, though she 'paved the way'. Thatcher also didn't hypocritically appeal to the gullible. Blair was elected as 'everything Thatcher wasn't', but he was a male clone of Thatcher. Blair did slaughter more, but he was standing on the shoulders of a giant cunt.

Two sides of the same coin - traitors to more than just their electorate. War Criminals and child-murderers as nasty as any that were rightly hanged at Nuremberg and yet these two still rake in their ever-accumulating wealth, without any serious threat from any of us while we pay for their security.

It is a self-betrayal for anyone here to consider suicide while Quislings like the pagaent-puppets, our leading politicians, go unpunished.
