In July this year the camp was attacked by US trained and equipped Iraqi security forces prior to the taking of the prisoners. Scores were reported injured and over a dozen were killed during the operation.

The attack on the camp was undertaken by US trained Iraqi security forces driving US supplied military vehicles into the camp and mowing down the residents at random.
A short while later, the same security forces attempted to gain access to the camp on foot by clubbing the residents, spraying boiling water and firing weapons at them.
