In the last couple of days numbers of people monitoring and intervening against police attacks on migrants have reduced. If you are thinking of coming, or want to find out more, please contact us now or have a look at the blog to see what you can do in Calais. There are many roles, doesn't have to involve face-to-face with cops! Hanging out with migrants often reaps rewards in building relationships, finding out what is really going on and is appreciated as simple, but effective, help can be provided - sorting out lighting for squats, improving nutrition for a pregnant woman, working in the same internet cafe so police back off, basic medic work...
If you want to do stuff from the UK, there will soon be an open letter circulated, at the suggestion of some migrants in Calais, to encourage refugee and migrant communities settled in the UK to get involved in support work in Calais. Help distributing this would be appreciated.
Also someone who wants to do some UK press work would be great. We have lots of statements, photos and video of what is happening here, but little time to distribute to media.
If you are coming to Calais to show solidarity and want information call (from UK) 00 33 6 34 81 07 10 from France 06 34 81 07 10
You can also post a comment to this blog with your email address and/or phone number. These will not be shown publicly, but someone will contact you who is in or has recently been in Calais to help you be more prepared and put you in touch with people. So for instance, if you are a medic, we can put you in touch with other medics. Or if you have plumbing skills, etc.
So get in touch and come to Calais!
