camp climate wales August

A sure vote winner

Im sure a lot of people in the no with regards to the camp in August that jill Evans MEP plaid
cymru and others have decided to go along, i see this as some what strange, the idea of camp climate's is the fact that our elected MEP,AM,MP have done bugger all.
I see this if they go in the capacity of being elected as nothing more than a possible vote winner,
i for one shall not be going to the 22 july set up camp or the August.
this is just so outrageous its behind belief.
NO THANKS
please have alook at this site , i feel really sorry i shall not be going i have done a lot to spread the word on this open cast mine and have indeed written letters etc etc ,to have it ruined by the political partys stage for fame and votes

better if they allowed to go

It would be better if politicians were allowed to attend the camp. Then the police wont be able to assault attendees with as much wanton abandon as they might otherwise do. It is a bit like having 'internationals' present at demos in Palestine, which helps make Israeli soldiers and police less trigger happy.

They come,then bugger of

i cant see them staying over night, it will be just a publicity stunt, them come, they talk ,they do bugger all and of they go back in to there roll of serving parliament, not us.
Go and ask the people who live around the mine how much help they have had so far, not much.

the presence of politicians (i.e. the enemy, as a class if not as individuals) at demonstrations is, of course, a sure-fire way to ensure that the police behave themselves. this would explain the entirely proportionate, decent and fair policing at the G20 protests this year, attended by Tom Brake MP ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/may/10/g20-policing-agent-provacateurs) and David Howarth MP ( http://www.inthenews.co.uk/infocus/features/in-focus/g20-protests-the-politician-s-view-$1286698.htm), among others.

Politicians turn up, say their bit and bugger off again. That's what Arthur Scargill did at Kingsnorth. It's good to let them: In a free debate, Anarchisms win. Climate Camps that successfully defend themselves are areas liberated from the violent coercion of the state where such free discussion can take place. It was a shame that our debate with Scargill was made difficult by the police attacking during it but he did insist that TV interviews had this police action in the background.

as long as they're not invited or given a workshop/stage, then I think it's fine for them to come along and participate. It shows that we're the place where it's at!

However, if they're given a headline talk, like they were at the last year's Camp for Climate Action, then that is squeezing our radical space which we are trying to broaden, hindering the expression of our ideas to those who haven't heard them, with some cheap 'crowd pleasers'. This is not what we're about surely!

Hi Davey

We're quite concerned about this in the Cymru media team. Basically we've let politicians know that they are free to attend as individuals, but that we do not endorse political parties and the camp should not be used as a platform for politicians. Requests from political parties to hold a stall at the camp have already been denied.

how can you hope to change the political system if you won't engage with it?
Some polititions are basicly good people who are powerless to act on there priciples in the corporate dominated system and while we may not agree with what thay have to say as soon as we stop even lissening to other points of vewe we become littel better than the Bushists.

Bad eggs.....

15.07.2009 19:19

Hi davey, totally know how you feel, yeah it stinks, but don't let the attendance of a few egotists spoil your well appreciated efforts, life's too short mate. To have your passion dampend by one or two bad eggs will not rest easy on your psyche after the camp has upped pegs and moved on. There are many others who disagree with the decision to let the enemy attend (consensus? I think not) Remember its your turf and they will be aware that they're on it!! Hope you reconsider and look forward to reading your critique.
( I still think fuck 'em, but thats givin' em what they want) Good luck.
