Petition 2009

To: President Jalal Talabani; Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Kamil al-Maliki; President of the Supreme Judicial Council Midhat Mahmood; President Foreign Relations Dr. Sheikh Humam Hamoody; Minister of Human Rights Wajdan Mikhail Salam; Iraqi Presidency Board Human Rights; Iraqi Civil Society Organization, Presidency Board; Iraqi Justice Presidency Board; Iraqi Security Presidency Board; Embassy of the Republic of Iraq; USA Government; C.I.A. – USA; UN International High Commissioner for Human Rights; Democratic Nations

EveryOne Group and civil society in democratic countries have taken up the appeal from the IRAQI LGBT association, based in London, which calls on activists and democratic citizens to take part in an international campaign to save the lives of 128 prisoners sentenced to death because they are homosexual. According to the judicial and religious authorities, the prisoners will be murdered in groups of about 20 people. The first series of executions is imminent. Over the last three years 132 homosexuals have been put to death, including 17 Iraqi LGBT activists.
Arcigay has officially asked the Italian Government – through the Foreign Secretary – to support the international campaign against these executions that violate all the international charters in defence of human rights. EveryOne Group is asking the American institutions - which are still very influential in Iraq - to support this petition in favour of human rights and life, and invites all democratic citizens to send requests for clemency to the politicians and authorities who are able to put a stop to these executions:

An absurd distortion

05.04.2009 13:27

Whether wilful or just sloppy, this is an absurd distortion of the original report. 128 refers to the number of prisoners sentenced to death by courts in Iraq in 2008, of whom a few *may* be guilty of *gay* crimes, including quite possibly murder and rape (no information offered). Most of the death row prisoners will have been found guilty of involvement in mass civilian-casualty bombings and other terrorist attacks. Why, the figure may even include Chemical Ali. Is he gay too?

exaggerated, but still people are being legally murdered for their sexuality

05.04.2009 16:07

It does look like the numbers here have been exaggerated to hype this up, but the fact remains that many people in Iraq *are* being murdered by religious bigots with the full backing of the system just for their sexuality.

You have to ask why these people feel so threatened by anyone who isn't heterosexual. Why are the perverts so obsessed with what other people do with their dangly bits, as long it is doesn't harm anyone else?

I think they need to carefully examine their own sexuality before killing others for theirs. Are they in the closet and over-compensating?

Fuck religion!
