The News Cast

A Palestinian woman from the Gaza Strip was reported dead on Monday midday at an Egyptian hospital. The woman sustained critical wounds during the Israeli operation Cast Lead, earlier this year.

Meanwhile a Palestinian Farmer moderately injured by Israeli troop's gun fire near the northern borders of the Gaza Strip on Monday. Doctors said the farmer was working in his land near the Khan Younis border crossing when troops opened fire at him.

Staying in Gaza, where Palestinian fighters clashed with Israeli border troops on Monday early morning at the northern Gaza-Israel borders, medics said one Palestinian fighter was moderately injured and was moved to a local hospital for treatment. No casualties among the Israeli troops were reported.

In the southern West Bank, eight Palestinian civilians were injured on Monday midday when Israeli troops attacked a nonviolent protest in the Ithna village near Hebron city. The protest was organized at the villages' lands where Israel is building the Wall. The protest was in commemoration of the 33 anniversary of the Land Day.

Local sources said that protesters supported by local community leaders and Palestinian Members of Parliament marched towards their lands, Israeli soldiers attacked them and injured eight moderately.

Palestinians and their supporters around the world are organizing protests, demonstrations, teach-ins and actions on Land Day, on Monday. Meanwhile, the Grassroots Palestinian Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign organized a week of nonviolent activities including protests, planting of trees and marches, in different parts of the West Bank. The program started Friday and will go through April 4 to commemorate Land Day.

On March 30, 1976 Israeli military and police forces attacked non-violent demonstration organized against wide-scale land confiscation in the town of Sakhnin in the Galilee, killing six Palestinian residents of Israel. At least 100 were wounded and 300 arrested by Israeli forces as well.

Since then, Palestinian in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as well as refugee camps in nearby Arab countries declared that day to be 'Land Day', to protest the confiscation of Palestinian land, which is still ongoing to expand the state of Israel.
