Small good news: WEAPONS TO ISRAEL STOPPED

ninetto | 15.01.2009 17:56 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | Terror War | World

The Guardian is reporting that thanks to Amnesty International, Greek and maybe some other EU officials, the weapons shipment that was due to leave Greece for Israel this week has been stopped and for now, "no EU member state will allow their ports or other facilities to be used to transit these or any other weapons to any of the parties to this conflict."

HERE below is the contact address of the German Shipping Company that was going to deliver the weapons to Israel. I urge all readers to contact the company and "bombard" them with emails and calls to STOP ALL WEAPONS TRANSPORT to Israel NOW and FOREVER!!!

Thanks to the Greek Protests

ADDITION/UPDATE
Actually, after more careful reading of the article, it was not Amnesty Int. alone, or the EU politicos, but also
local protests who had at least the effect of "delaying" the transport...

"But after a two week stand-off, amid local protests in Greece, it moved out into the Mediterranean two days ago and disappeared off tracking websites"

Cargo NOT stopped for good - action needed to stop it

17.01.2009 11:51

Hi all,

although the cargo's been delayed, and refused entry in Greece, there's no indication from any of the news coverage that it's been stopped altogether, and the ship has now apparently gone off the radar.

Action's still needed NOW to stop the ship from going on to Israel, or loading its cargo onto other ships to feed to Israel.

red herring

Haifas port is deep enough to accept this shipment of munitions directly. Just like two years ago arms were shipped from the US through the UK when they could have flown them directly. This is some sort of bizarre trap that hasn't sprung. Anyone waiting for an improvement when Obama gains office, please stick you head in the sand for real, for at least 20 minutes.

Embargo

16.01.2009 11:12

Surely by now, and considering the recent attacks on Lebanon there is a compelling case (on the basis of international law/war crimes) for the foreseeable ongoing embargo of arms sales to Israel. Of course it would have to be on a national level as the UN Security Council would be vetoed by the US.
