Zionists organizing a pro war demo at Israeli embassy Wednesday 7th

They're not all war mongers or crazy Zionists.

I condemn both Hamas for it's indiscriminate rocket attacks and use of human shields, and the IDF for it's blatant disregard for civilian casualties.

They're both guilty of crimes against humanity and the leaders of both should be tried before a war crimes tribunal.

So, according to your distorted logic, which obviously aims to cover up the Zionist crime, after the second world war not only the nazi criminals but also the resistance organizations should have been sent to Nuremberg! Did it occur to you that Hamas and the people in Gaza fight an occupation? Has any occupier in History been evicted just by negotiations?

I can't believe no one has commented on this before. This is a disgraceful intimation: that physical attacks ("war") should be brought against "the Zionists" who attend this counter demonstration!

I am not a pacifist, and if people want to fight the police to get to the embassy, go ahead. But thuggery against non-violent political opponents is completely unnaceptable from a revolutionary anti-capitalist point of view. There is no suggestion that British Zionists pose a physical threat to anyone.

We need to be quicker to notice and challenge this sort of nut-jobbery.

A (visibly) Jewish friend of mine was spat at yesterday, and subjected to a variety of anti-semitic comments: not at the demonstration, but going about his business. This trend is completely unnacceptable. We need a consistent opposition to racism.

Some commentators seem to think that we should allow Zionists to have platform to preach their support for the mass slaughter of the Palestinians. Would those same people also agree that a neo Nazi rally should be allowed to go unoppossed? I think not.

1.4 million palestinians are under immediate and real physical threat from the Zionist occupiers.

The British Zionists are THE main lobby group for Israel in the UK and they the architects of Israel's very existence - an existence that came about after a campaign of terrorist bombing and murders by the Zionists. Their current efforts are around legitimizing the attacks on Gaza through their media pressure groups such as 'Just Journalism' and getting their members to blitz online forums with messages of support for Israel. They also organize training in propaganda, fly journalists to Israel to be wined and dined, mobilize to lobby parliament etc. They are also collecting money for the IDF.

The Zionist here are providing direct support for the massacres in Palestine and can easily be identified as a legitimate target for campaigning in this country - far more so than the British police who get sent to stand between us and them.

The question is not "should they have a platform?", but "should they be physically attacked
?".

For example, if it was proposed that members of the Israeli government be banned from speaking at my university, I would support a resolution at my student union to that effect.

There are two crucial ways in which British fascists are different from British Zionists, with respect to questions of physical violence.

1) British fascists personally use physical violence themselves - so anti-fascist violence is justified against them.

2) British fascism relies, in large part, on an ideology of personal physical strength, toughness, machismo, and superiority - an ideology which can effectively combatted, by way of demonstration, through phyical violence.

Neither of these things are true of British Zionists.

In any case, those advocating this are keyboard warriors. Obviously no one is going to go be able to beat their way through police lines to attack the Zionist demonstrators - and especially not the authors of posts on indymedia. This disconnection with reality is typical of the minority wingnuts (almost always white and middle class) who advocate this sort of thing.

Imagine that the demonstators did attack the Zionists, and managed to 'win' the fight - what's going to happen? Inevitably it will escalate physically, with both sides taking precautions to 'defend themselves' in future, and probably take on the characteristics of religious/ethnic conflict, given the background of many of the demonstrators. Is that what you want?

Anyway, what good do you think it's going to do? There are solidarity activists in Gaza who some of us are regularly in touch with. They are asking us to escalate protests, block roads, get the Palesinian voice out there, etc. They are not asking for personal violence.

And furthermore, Zionism is not 'Nazism'. Zionism is a much broader ideology, which has quasi-fascist poles within it, as well as other, much softer poles. Like all nationalisms, it is always chauvinist, often racist, and - when it is militarily superior - promotes extreme military violence. It does not, as a rule, support the idea that all people of a certain ethnicity be exterminated.

If Israel is 'Nazi' so are Sudan (because of Darfur) and Russia (because of Checnya), as well,no doubt, as some of the warring parties in the Congo. In fact, throwing this term around is innacurate and pointless. Israel is just doing what modern capitalist states do - just what Britain and America did in Iraq.

Once again, these statements come from a tiny, loony minority of the movement.

Those who propose violence against the demonstrators "time to bring the war home" are disgusting and hypocritical. You can bet your bottom dollar these people are the first to cry to the police and state when the opposition smacks them back for intimidating and threatening them, and yet here you are playing big man bravery.

Then again you believe some are more equal than others, free speech for some (namely yourself) and then nothing for anyone else not even a whisper? I hear your friend Stalin is calling, heard he wants you to send another shipment of people to Siberia.

I know people who are attending the demo against Hamas tomorrow, they also happened to join in the protests against the IDF. Is the concept that both are disgusting organisations too difficult for you to comprehend?

Not sure where Tom gets the idea that the first post is call for violence against individuals, the original poster writes "Time to bring the war home?" which could be taken in a number of ways and yet you chose to interpret it as a call for violence. Confronting fascist when they try to mass in the streets is a totally legitimate thing to be doing, especially in the light of this organizations direct support for the Israeli war machine.

Another poster writes to suggest that the demo tomorrow is a demo against Hamas which it clearly is not. It's a demo in support of Israeli aggression against gaza which is very very different from being a protest against Hamas. It would be a total contradiction to attend in support of both demos outside the embassy, one is demanding the end to Israeli hostilities and the other is rallying in support of it.

Heed the calls from the ORGANIZED anti-whatnots and the clean and sober people who say that to fight BACK is the wrong thing, the bad thing ... the thing that will do no good.
