“We don’t forget, we don’t forgive” - day of international action against state murders, 20.12.2008

Today (Friday), the assembly of the occupied Athens Polytechnic decided to make a callout for European and global-wide actions of resistance

Today (Friday), the assembly of the occupied Athens Polytechnic decided to make a callout for European and global-wide actions of resistance in the memory of all assassinated youth, migrants and all those who were struggling against the lackeys of the state. Carlo Juliani; the French suburb youths; Alexandros Grigoropoulos and the countless others, all around the world. Our lives do not belong to the states and their assassins! The memory of the assassinated brothers and sisters, friends and comrades stays alive through our struggles! We do not forget our brothers and sisters, we do not forgive their murderers. Please translate and spread around this message for a common day of coordinated actions of resistance in as many places around the world as possible.

and certainly has nothing to do with the SWP!

FYI - the Athens Polytechnic is a historical university building in downtown Athens
It has been the centre of resistance in Greece ever since the fall of the dictatorship in 1974.
In November 1973 a tank broke through the main gate killing tens of students occupying
the building who were protesting against the military dictatorship which crumbled within a year
after that massacre. Ever since, the police in Greece ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER
university grounds for the preservation of democracy and free speech. This is one of the
reasons why we have such a militant movement here, because we have those sanctuaries
against state violence.

The ultimate university sanctuary in the whole of Greece, on a symbolic and a practical level,
is the Athens Polytechnic which has been occupied many times in the past and is now
occupied again for the past week because of the latest murder. Every night there have been
big clashes with the police around the Polytechnic and in nearby streets.
The assembly of this occupied space is the most
frequented by the anarchist, anti-authoritarian and autonomous scene in Athens.

All I'm trying to say is that this is a serious call from a "collective institution of resistance"
which is very central here.

People in Greece have been very moved by all the solidarity actions from abroad.
Separately, we probably won't get very far.
This is one effort to hold a coordinated action for EVERYONE oppressed by the police.

"We don’t forget, we don’t forgive" - I'm sure they sometimes do both! Slogans are problematic! Who is not being forgiven? SWP-esq rhetoric?

To all mechanisms of oppression (the state, the capitalists, the police/military) who are the main perpetrators of the socio economic conditions we live in today and are responsible not only for the death of millions around the world, but for the gradual destruction of the world itself. Saturday's murder was not an isolated event, but it was the spark which caused the outpour of the citizens of Greece into the streets.

"We don't forget - We don't forgive" is not a claim that Greeks never forget anything nor forgive anyone; it is an abbreviation of "We will not forget nor forgive the murder of Alex nor other State violence". That might look unclear on a banner. Similarly "No New Coal" refers to new projects for the mining and burning of coal rather than the mineral itself. Slogans have their own grammar; independent of prose.

IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE REVOLT IN GREECE

For more than two weeks now the POPULAR REVOLT in Greece resists the state terror and police brutality, the cynicism and corruption of a system in crisis. Product of the aggressive neo-liberal offensive of capitalism the revolt continues resilient against bullets, tear gases, arrests, media terror, state propaganda, and political pressure for 'law and order'.

It resists a police state that the ruling class desires to impose in order to get away with its killings and its murdering policies. Instead of retreating it spreads, it deepens, becomes more massive and diversifies and decentralises its actions, sending a clear message to the people of the world: TO REVOLT IS ALWAYS JUST

The popular insurrection that broke out in the critical geopolitically south east corner of the European fortress, is already considered the first social uprising of the current economic crisis. As the crisis deepens, and it affects severely the everyday lives of the masses, the growing fear of the international elite, is the potential of the Greek revolt might cause a "domino effect" and will reach the centre of EU. This fear has penetrated the corridors of power, across the EU and scared the Imperial centers. So much so that cautiously they already freeze the enforcement of their neoliberal agenda. In France, the Sarkozy government has taken back plans for a new educational reform and the budget proposals that would "rescue" the rich from losses. Furthermore the EU Parliament has voted last Wednesday against a law that would allow a 65 hours working week and would limit even more workers rights.

A SPECTRE IS HAUNTING EUROPE -- It is the spectre of mass insurrection against the system that negates life. It is in our hands to make their worst fears come true by bringing the revolt in the centre of Europe and reinforcing their crisis.

PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, TAKE ON THE STREETS

THE GREEK REVOLT HAS BEEN ONLY THE BEGINNING

Lets hope met dont send down a "special tactical" unit to help provoke something

20.12.2008 01:04

weve all seen that happen before. Keep it real, in my experience any obvious potential police provateurs in uniform or need details taking & be nice to make a citizens arrest, but.. anyway.
Ive spoken to senior BBC-ITV etc journos who admit they know police provocation happens regularly, people are waking up too,
heres to direct democracy & justice in Greece& globally,
