London fashion week: Racial diversity event

Billy Macrae | 21.09.2008 00:58 | Anti-racism | Culture | London | World

Images from the two-day 'Fashion diversity' event.
This event aims to promote emerging designers and models from ethnically diverse backgrounds, in what many see as an industry dominated by 'skinny white people' in the UK.
This event took place on Friday 19th + Saturday 20th September, and was held at the Museum of London.

This event took the form of four fashion shows over two days.

Emerging 'ethnically diverse' (i.e. not Caucasian-British) Designers featured included: Jermaine Springer, Katasi Kironde, Maame Baryeh, Giuseppe Tavano, Omar Mansoor, Laura Haywood, Khulekani Msweli, Krystal Ellis-Dokubo, Yuliya Kyrpo, Freya Nagelsmann, Abigail Ayoola, Petra Johnson, Sarah Murphy, Brett Martindale Durning and Ally Rehmtullah.

More established 'honorary designers' included Yemi Osunkoya, Simon Parchment and Deola Sagoe.

Winner of the overall 'Student designer' prize on Saturday was Brett Martindale Durning, the youngest designer at the event at 14 years old.
A rising star, Brett was awarded 'Young designer of the year' in 2006, when he was still just twelve years old.

Save us from fucking liberals!!!!

Strange how despite their non-whiteness, these models are all very symmetrical and conform to western capitalist standards of beauty.

The fashion industry will no doubt get more 'diverse' if and when the people running it think a more 'diverse' range of ethnic groups have the money to throw at clothes. In the mean time, fuck fashion, fuck fascism, and fuck you.

Look at the images... do most of them really make the models and hangers on look good, or like nutters?
Do you think I might have been TRYING to provoke mixed reactions?

Isn't it worth using this platform to do something more subtle than the bog standard rant-article?

: )

You're full of shit, mate,. like the rest of the poverty pimps,ex trot mockneys et. al. We know the 'left' is as dodgy as the 'right' and as for the posh anti-working clas green movement and it's pathetic publishing and pseudo academic industry. A change is going to come.
