Another example of why PETA are not animal rights.

peta watcher | 12.07.2008 11:45 | Animal Liberation | World

Time and time again PETA have done deals with the animal abusers, settling for minor welfare improvements, this is welfare, not AR!
PETA have even suggested people go to Burger King, as part of their boycott Wendy's campaign in America.
Earlier this year they ran a campaign with burlesque star dita von teese a woman who has regularly worn fur and admits to enjoying a bit of foie gras.
A group such as PETA, one so full of hypocrisies dose not deserve our support.
The article below is from the Memphis Business Journal, July 9, 2008.
Don't give PETA your money, they have plenty, give it to grassroots AR groups as they make the real differences in these animals lives.

Medtronic reaches agreement with animal rights group PETA
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Medtronic has reached an agreement with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) over the treatment of animals it uses in medical experimentation.

Fridley, Minn.-based medical device maker Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) will work to improve its treatment of animals it uses in tests under terms of a deal with Norfolk, Va.-based PETA, a release detailed.

The company will also extend protections to animals used in foreign contract laboratories. PETA said in exchange, it withdrew its shareholder resolution calling on Medtronic to stop outsourcing animal experiments to countries with inadequate animal protection laws.

Medtronic will also meet with PETA twice yearly to discuss animal welfare issues.

Medtronic's Spinal and Biologics unit is located in Memphis, where it employs about 1,300 people who work with surgeons, researchers and others to make technologies for neurological, orthopedic, dental and spinal conditions.

Not way out, but way in

Ok, but PETA is a way in to real animal welfare/rights. If you've never been involved before, you start with something like PETA cos it's mainstream non-threatening stuff. Then, and this is the important bit, you come to understand (through contact with AR people at PETA gatherings) that it's frustrating and ineffective and you want something better for animals. Unless AR people are talking to PETA people (and similar groups), there won't be any movement forwards. Each will stay in their rut, despising the other.

PETA SCUM

I had admired PETA for years (long time ago) for what they were doing (not the way) until I found about their shelters in USA where they are killing dogs and cats because the pets are unadoptable from many reasons
there are no compromises in AR
PETA is good in making performance and whatever good for animals they did/are doing they are hypocrites for me

No compromise?

12.07.2008 19:42

Surely the most important thing of all is the animals?
If a compromise involves a human being able to swallow his/her dislike of another human, in order to argue the case for tough measures against animal exploitation and cruelty, that seems a very small thing to do.
Put aside your hatred and use your cunning, charm and intelligence to win over the PETA people. They're already motivated and give a damn about animals. If they meet sheer agression and hatred from AR folk, they'll stick to their safe ways. If they are shown the short-comings of the group and not made to feel like shits, chances are you'll have another few thousand AR peeps in the world, ready to make a difference for animals.
Save the hatred and vitriol for the vivisectors.

PETA has a 10% survival rate for animals.

90% of animals they take in get executed.

That's on a par with Jews in the concentration camps.
