I am a Herbert

I am a Herbert! A Herbert am I!
A Herbert I be and I don't question why!
I sometimes write letters to Right of Reply
And often they're censored by shady on High.
No reason is given, nor attempt to define,
Save the usual abuse of another being's rights.
The attempt to suppress any dissident cry,
To extinguish the flame of the truth seeker’s light,
To muscle the movement to violence and might,
To keep all dissent on the wire out of sight,
To ensure only one sided gospel is heard,
And the lesson today is to stand up and fight,
Though this pretext for harmony’s equally absurd,
Like to break both its wings and give flight to a bird,
Like a bird with bust wings can achieve steady flight!
And this monochrome measure which narrows all views,
Which limits the scope of each sentence and word,
Is presented with flourish like liberty’s news,
The subtext doth motion a dark prolonged night
Where the fiction of fact takes a threatening air,
And the word on the Newswire this evening’s, “Beware!”
