Protest at Camden Town Hall re : Danger Lab [To be built] 5th November 6.30

Camden Residents Against "B.L.I.S.S." Lab | 01.11.2007 06:52 | Animal Liberation | Bio-technology | Social Struggles | London | World

Protest against "The world's largest virus containment facility /animal testing lab"to be built in Camden - on Somers Town Council Estate.
The protest is Camden Town Hall, Judd Street, Camden, London WC1.
Monday November 5th 6.30pm
MI5 leaked the news to the Evening Standard newspaper amid security concerns when the NIMR / MRC bid for the land and also when they bought land on Hampstead Road where work has already started......

The protest coincides with the deputation meeting and government assessment meeting.
The DCMS intend to sell land behind the British library to the NIMR / MRC.
These want to build the world's largest ever animal testing facility / virus containment facility.
The protesters are concerned about security - [ foot and mouth disease & avian flu were laborotary leaks ] in a built up residential area and about animal cruelty.
The area of Camden, one of London's and the UK's most deprived needs more council homes, youth facilities, music facilities, sport facilities, child care etc...not a deadly germlab /animal torture facility on a council estate!

From what i can gather, isn't the project just the re-location of the MRC / NIMR hq from Mill Hill?

Have discovered that this is to be a centre for teh collaboration of scientists from Cancer Research, NIMR and UCL and that there will be no deadly bugs here afterall. They are staying at the existing multi-million pound facility where they are safe and secure! Animal testing will be limited to, the idea is to do what Cancer Research does and leave them out of town at a specialist site where technicians do the work and the scientists exercise the brain - scientists aren't where the testing takes place. Any animals will be restricted to mice and rats will not include primates and also be very few. I hate animal testing but these are for medical research not to meet human vanity for cosmetics and stuff. Having lost my sister to cancer and what I know of what they want to do I am supportuive of bringing these agencies together to work together if it can save one life it will be worth it.

Yes the viruses WILL be held there.

Jane

Rats and mice feel pain and suffering. Rats are also very intelligent.

Deadly bugs WILL be held at the ste. And this is land where council homes and youth facilities are despearately needed. Craig - you haven't GOT a CLUE. Plenty of AR activistst have had illnesses...many brought on by pollution from "safe" animal tested products...see www.curedisease.net
