COLOMBIA 2007
National Agrarian and Popular Mobilization

The state capitalist policies that have exploited the peoples of the world
have generated the worst conditions known to humanity. In Colombia the government of President Alvaro Uribe Velez, through its policies, laws, programs and actions has gravely affected the life of the nation and especially of popular sectors.

Through this mobilization the popular sector of society which is peasant farmers, indigenous communities, displaced peoples, afro-decedents, workers and students among others will show the world that Colombia is not what it is presented to be in the media. The government tries to present a false front nationally as well as internationally, showing that they are investing great sums of money to resolve poverty. Many parts of Colombian society are demanding that Uribe Velez resign for being an illegitimate and illegal government. Illegal because he won the elections based on pressure by the paramilitaries, electoral fraud and electronic fraud and illegitimate because his projects and actions represent the interest of a minority of the people of this country.

Many social sectors of Colombia will mobilize during three days of national protest in October. The mobilization is being organized in spite of threats and actions taken against us by the state military and paramilitary groups who want to stop us. In spite of the repression we will continue our movement and ask for the solidarity from communities, organizations and democratic peoples of the world.

We know that our just demands will cause a violent and brutal response from the state but we hope that the people of the world will break their silence and show their solidarity in all ways that they can against the brutality that this regime has historically applied to the Colombian people.

WHY DO THE COLOMBIAN PEOPLE MOBILIZE?

The crisis in Colombia requires that the people take a position against the present regimen of poverty, terror and that we demand the immediate resignation of Alvaro Uribe Velez.

His government has imposed the model of a community state with an integral strategy called “the strategy for the strengthening of democracy and social development”. This combines a plan for war that affects all of the popular sectors of society, called “democratic security, and plans of development and peace”.

The combination and systematic development of the ominous actions by the government insures that the property of the rich is maintained and grows, that the borders of the capital are extended which would end the peasant farmer’s and indigenous community’s plots, give our natural resources to the transnational, markets goods held in common, privatizes and worsens the services of state companies that serve the people (education, health, communications and public services), covers with impunity and covers the state paramilitary politics that in Colombia comprises the economy, the electoral process and the military, imposes and legalizes the mechanisms for impunity and the systematic violation of international human rights, eliminating the possibility of a real political solution to the social and armed conflict in the country.

The level of misery in Colombia has increased. Peasant farmers, Afro Colombians, indigenous communities and peasant colonizers do not have land to farm and have been displaced to the cities. Land and money are concentrated in the hands of the few, workers lack just labor policies, our strategic natural resources are being robbed, the levels of education and health are constantly lowered and the access is decreasing due to the costs of these services. State commercial and social companies have been sold to the private sector at great cost to the people, people in the countryside as well as the cities are being selectively assassinated or massacred or disappeared or displaced in order to reorganize the society according to the needs of world capital. All of this and more is done with the support of the military that attack their own people. The military at this very moment is being directed by mercenaries who are supported by the Para-political system of the State that is annihilating the Colombian people by different means.

We call upon the national and international community to support and participate in the mobilization, uniting our bodies and hearts in actions, spreading information, and voicing your protest to the Casa de Narino (presidential residence), communication agencies, and inter-government
Organizations, the Congress of the U.S, the European Parliament, the offices of the transnationals with interests in Colombia. The Colombian embassies and the central offices of the transnationals compromised in the Colombian crisis should understand the rejection that humanity feels for their action against the Colombian people. Let it be known!
