Preparations were underway all evening in Glasgow and Edinburgh, with coaches due to leave both cities early in the morning of Monday. Other people are making their own way to the base from Wales, England, France, Germany, Belgium and Finland. A solidarity demonstration has already taken been undertaken by survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs at the United Kingdom embassy in Tokyo.
Environmentalists and peace activists will be joined by MSPs and MEPs; musicians Leon Rosselson, Roy Bailey, David Ferrand and Seize the Day; and the Rev. Katy Galloway, leader of the Iona Community, who will celebrate a communion service at 10am. First Minister of the Scottish Government Alex Salmond has sent a message of support, as have Cardinal O'Brien, head of the Catholic Church in Scotland, Dr Iris Jones, head of the Scottish Episcopal Church, and Sheilagh Kesting, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. There is already a heavy police presence at Faslane Peace Camp.
