Aug. 3, 2007 (M2 Communications Ltd. delivered by Newstex) --
As plans to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Farnborough International Airshow in 2008 progress apace, new developments and improvements are being implemented to take the show forward into its next 60 year life cycle, according to announcements being made at AUVSI from 6-9 August.
Key sales and marketing personnel from Farnborough will be exhibiting at AUVSI and will be looking to build on their attendance at the Paris Airshow where they enjoyed very positive feedback and increasing sales demands from exhibitors for FI08. Already, year on year sales are up by 20%, and exhibition space is selling briskly, as exhibitors are keen to be part of what Flight International magazine has recently voted as The World's Favourite Airshow'.
Farnborough International Airshow is considered by its exhibitors to be the world's best airshow for business, and continues to grow from show to show. The 2006 Airshow was a highly successful event for our exhibitors, with record breaking order figures in the tens of billions of dollars, together with announcements of major new products and programme launches. The show welcomed 1,480 exhibiting companies from 35 countries (an increase from 1,300 companies in 2004); high level defence delegations from 43 countries; and 40 civil aerospace delegations from 15 countries. In terms of visitors, 270,000 people attended the show over the seven days, of whom 140,000 were trade visitors. The Airshow attracted considerable global press coverage, with 1,800 accredited international media representatives in attendance.
As part of its 60th anniversary theme of celebrating the past, while looking forward to the innovations of the future, Farnborough International is delighted to be featuring its popular and well-received Unmanned Air Vehicle Pavilion at the 2008 Airshow. The dedicated UAV Pavilion is supported by AUVSI, who enjoyed good presence at Farnborough in 2006. UAVs are undoubtedly an area with the potential for extraordinary growth. Gretchen West, Director of Global Business Development for AUVSI commented: 'The goal ofAUVSI's UAVPavilion is tobring togethersmallto medium-sized companies in the Unmanned Systemsindustryto better leverage their presence and opportunities at a large event under one banner.Building onthe success of the UAV Pavilion at the 2007 Paris Air Show, we expect a record turnout of exhibitors showcasing unmanned systems hardware in the UAV Pavilion at Farnborough next year.'
AUVSI will once again be hosting a UAV conference as an official event at FIA 2008 and in conjunction with Farnborough International organizers can advise exhibitors or delegates on ways in which they can participate within the UAV Pavilion.
Looking ahead to FIA 2008, Amanda Stainer, Exhibitions and Events Director for Farnborough International Limited commented: 'We are feeling very upbeat about FIA 2008. Sales for 2008 are going very well, and we have already had a series of positive meetings with clients, with more lined up during AUVSI. We are extremely encouraged by the infrastructure improvements we are making to the show, and by the support which our exhibitors and clients are giving us in response to them. AUVSI is a great opportunity for us to meet our valued and important North American exhibitors and clients and talk them through the exciting new innovations planned for FIA2008.'
