'Caddy' places in box office top ten

Monday, July 30, 2007

Jul. 30, 2007 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) --
Local movie extras and their 'fans' were not the only ones lined up to get a taste of what 'Who's Your Caddy?' was all about this weekend.

Coming in as the No. 10 movie nationally, this urban comedy from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer grossed $2.9 million in box office sales.

Filmed in the area last fall, 'Who's Your Caddy?' sparked much interest around town, especially from those who were cast on the set. For its debut last Friday, Regal Aiken Mall Cinemas filled a total of 300 seats in two theaters during an unofficial premiere hosted by local business owners Tom and Pam Powers.

Places such as Woodside Plantation, the Willcox Inn, New Bridge Polo and Country Club and other sites around Aiken were viewed on the big screen by countless spectators nationwide hoping to kick back and get a good laugh.

The independent movie, directed by actor/director Don Michael Paul, stars Antwan 'Big Boi' Patton of the Grammy-winning hip-hop duo Outkast, Jeffrey Jones ('Ferris Bueller's Day Off') and comedians Bruce Bruce and Garrett Morris ('Saturday Night Live'), among others.

In the satire, hip-hop star C-Note (Big Boi) is not immediately welcome when he tries to join a more conservative golf country club and decides to buy the property near the 17th hole.

'The Simpsons Movie' took the top spot as the No. 1 movie with $71.9 million. It was followed by 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry,' with $19.1 million, and 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,' coming in third place with $17.1 million.
