BERLIN, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Germany has been hit by severe storms, heavy rains and flooding over the weekend with at least one person drown and 10 people injured.
The southern state of Bavaria declared a state of emergency in several regions, some of which were submerged under 1.5 meters of water. Flooding cut off rail and road traffic in some locations for several hours. Hundreds of motorists stranded by flooding water on the Autobahn 73 had to be rescued to safety by firefighters.
In the small town of Poxdorf, a 82-year-old woman was found drown in the basement of her flooded home.
Severe storms also raged across the state of Thuringia and caused substantial damages. Roads were flooded, trees fell over, and cellars stood under water.
German weather service has warned of continuing bad weather, including showers and thunderstorms, in the coming days.
