Many analysts believe that their aims are not as stated, to chase PKK guerilla fighters, 'in hot pursuit' but they have a greater plan to deter the newly elected Kurdish Regional Government from having a referendum on the future status of Kirkuk in September, a referendum agreed and written into the Iraqi constitution under article 140.
From time to time, the US spokesperson has mumbled the words that the US does not think that an invasion of Iraq is a good idea at this time and the President of the Kurdish Regional Government, Massoud Barzani is saying that a invasion of the Kurdish north of Iraq would be 'devastating' and would 'ignite a regional war'.
But behind the scenes things are quite different. At a recent meeting held in secret at The Hudson Institute, a Neo Con 'think tank', the participants all discussed various 'scenarios' that could befall Turkey and looked at how the various interested parties should 'respond'.
One of the 'scenarios' was a bomb attack in Turkey by the PKK and another was the kidnapping of PKK leaders by the Kurdish parties and being handed over to the Turkish military.
What is even more interesting is who the representatives were at this meeting that was 'leaked' to the press and has caused a hugh political storm in Turkey. Present at the meeting were high ranking Turkish generals, Turkish analysts and the representative of the Kurdish Regional Government and son of the President of Iraq, Qubad Talabani! The elected Turkish government knew nothing of the meeting.
Neo Cons have been very active in regards to Turkey recently. In August of last year, Joseph Ralston was appointed as US 'special envoy to counter the PKK'
What was not reported was the fact that Joseph Ralston was and is a serving director of Lockheed Martin, the US arms company.
Surprising then, that not long after his appointment, Lockheed Martin and the Turkish military signed contracts to supply over $15 billion worth of high tech weaponry to Turkey including the latest fighter jets, F35's
The list goes on of Neo Cons who are working for the Turkish military to gain support for Turkey, Richard Perle, Marc Grossman, Joseph Ralston...etc
Not surprising then that the US response so far to Turkey continuing bombardments of Kurdish villages and threatened attack of 'Kurdistan' is one of The Three Wise Monkeys. Silence and looking the other way!
