Australia: Howard warns against 'change for change's sake'?

Votenobody | 02.06.2007 02:31 | Climate Chaos | Iraq | Terror War | London | World

Now if we get these decisions wrong about you and your party, and you burden the Australian community with no place to live, nothing, than ought otherwise be the case, you via us will inflict life threatening damage to all Australians and inflict great pain on all Australian lifestyles and future. So we're not going to get it wrong are we!!!

Now if we get these decisions wrong!!!
Now if we get these decisions wrong!!!

War criminal John Howard has used an address to the Liberal Party's federal council in Sydney to warn against a change of government simply for the sake of change.

Since when do war criminals warn people? I take it that we are being warned against you, a person who has shown no remorse for Iraq? And that's just for starters....

Howard has a very complex history though and the simple decision is that he needs to be charged and tried for war crimes against humanity for a start. Together with the coalition of the killing of course.

What is simple about this though is that we simply don't need a war criminal telling others about simple decisions that should have been dealt with last time around. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink corporate media!!!

War criminal vs. clean record would be a good simple decision to start with wouldn't it!!! Someone who could say, lead by example!!!

So it is for the sake of change!!! And not for changes sake!!! --- If that's what he's trying to get around?

Howard told Liberal Party members the government had achieved many social, economic and foreign policy goals.

Foreign, corporate economic Investors Rights Agreements? In other words he sold Australia out!!!

And policy goals for who? And at what cost? Were they lawful? Like the AWB scandal for instance?

Howard: "But it is never time for a change unless the change is for the better," he said.

Well that depends on whether goals should be for corporations, anti-working class and unlawful? Doesn't It!!!

Howard attacked the alleged opposition's union affiliations and questioned Labor's climate change policies.

Howard: "We can't think that you can have some nice costless response [to] climate change," he said.

But by the same 'token' you can't think that you can have some nice costless response [from] climate change!!!

Howard says decisions on climate change are a profoundly economic matter.

But getting climate change wrong is, no doubt, a profoundly life threatening matter.

So because you already got the targets wrong!!! And you already got the pace of change wrong!!!

In short we 'simply' can't get that wrong like you got Iraq wrong!

Mr Speaker!

That's a very simple decision, for the sake of Iraq and Climate Change.

Remember A vote for Nobody is a vote for Everybody!

* "The whole system is obviously doomed, but the world's politicians don't think in terms of "doom." Doom is in the future, and politicians are concerned with "now," and the next election.

There is no need for anyone to overthrow the old order based on capitalism. The societal flaws and lethal memes that are associated with takerism and capitalism are already well on the way to destroying the empires of the industrial age, New knowledge, new technology, and new thinking are helping to accelerate the process. Time is running out for the old order.

Our concern, as leaver-givers, needs to be with the world beyond the demise of capitalism. We need to have a social and economic logic, and a system of transition, in place well before the looming meltdown. We must have the rudiments of a new civilization and a new society ready for people to join when their old world fails them.

Afghanistan: war crimes amnesty prepares further atrocities

US forces continued to deny basic rights to some of around 500 detainees at its Bagram base accused of links with the Taliban and Al Qaeda, Amnesty noted, and the Afghan security forces—to whom US/NATO forces routinely hand over detainees—were “accused of illegal detentions and torture and other ill-treatment.” Meanwhile local officials/commanders, some of whom ran their own prisons, were never held accountable for their actions, Amnesty said.

Australia: Police-state measures for APEC summit in Sydney
The APEC operation is part of a wider assault on basic democratic rights under the guise of combatting terrorism. Since 2002, the federal and state governments have combined to impose a raft of measures that would have been previously unimaginable, such as detention without trial, the outlawing of selected political groups, semi-secret trials and far-reaching sedition laws.

Defence greenwash on war games a toxic lie
In 2005 the Australian Defence Force commissioned an environmental report into the effects of military training exercises in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA) just north of Yeppoon. While that report gave the military the greenwash they were probably looking for, it overlooked issues of the known toxicity of military chemicals and important social justice issues not addressed anywhere else. For the more cautious of us it also provided a valuable insight into the natural values at risk by war games in that area.

The Real Dole Bludgers
Unemployment figures scandal story (longish)
The important thing is that the only concern anyone in the media appears to have in all of this is the potential of a conflict of interest – not the more basic question of what this means for the labour movement. Will our new leader restore the CES? Does he give a flying fuck about the unemployed? He slept in a car a few times. That gave him “labour values”. We are expected to accept that as a consolation and a proof that he is a lesser evil than John Howard – which is like being called a lesser evil than Dracula. - R.B.

Australian government cuts thousands of welfare recipients off benefits
This relentless assault on the most vulnerable sections of society has proceeded without a murmur of opposition from the official political establishment. Nobody will change that!
In the recent NSW Election a definite chain of command was in evidence: Socialist Alliance functioned as cheerleaders for the Greens, and the Greens supported Labor. Both organisations promoted illusions that Labor could be pressured at the ballot box, and that it represented a “lesser evil” to the Liberals. In line with this, the Greens concluded a preference deal with Labor’s state executive, while Socialist Alliance allocated first preferences to the Greens and second preferences to Labor.

'participatory democracy'
Firstly, I do not see a single candidate I want to speak on behalf of me. Why should I 'participate' in a system which does not represent me? Secondly, our only option to 'participate' is limited to once every three years or so. Ticking a box in secret is hardly 'participatory'. Thirdly, if we DO 'participate' our voices are nothing, when the elected few make decisions which we have NO say whatsoever. For example, despite 90% opposition to Iraq invasion - our leaders took us there. Stop putting fuel in a car that has no wheels. Abstain.

That on the same basis that having David Hicks meant they could do whatever they wanted to him – and did, now that Australia has him we will treat me with the dignity and respect for legal institutions that we should always do.

Voting Nobody
"TW voting for "nobody" just allows the established parties to carry on the swindle in my opinion, and is never going to change ANYTHING."

I voted "nobody" and here's what it did for me: Faced with a choice of Lab, Lib dem and Tory I spoiled my Ballot, afterwards I felt by doing so I had solidified my belief that I don't want to be represented by bullshit politicians, and that I intend to do all I can to take the power back. kind of ritualistic I guess, but I came away feeling empowered even by this little snub. So it changed something in me, I didn't get suckered in the false pretence of democracy, this election. Fly posters

PM warns against 'change for change's sake'

The Prime Minister has used an address to the Liberal Party's Federal Council in Sydney to warn against a change of Government simply for the sake of change.

John Howard told Liberal Party members the Government had achieved many social, economic and foreign policy goals.

"But it is never time for a change unless the change is for the better," he said.

He attacked the Opposition's union affiliations and questioned Labor's climate change policies.

"We can't think that you can have some nice costless response to climate change," he said.

Mr Howard say decisions on climate change are a profoundly economic matter.

"Because if we get the targets wrong, if we get the pace of change wrong, if we get these decisions wrong and we burden the Australian community with higher electricity prices than ought otherwise be the case, we will inflict enormous damage to Australian industry and inflict great pain on Australian households," he said.

Australia: Govt failing on climate change: Rudd

02.06.2007 05:03

Labor leader Kevin Rudd has attacked the federal government's 11-year record on climate change in his speech to the Western Australian Labor Party's state conference in Perth.

Rudd has accused prime minister John Howard and treasurer Peter Costello of a complete lack of leadership on the issue.

He has used much of his speech to attack Howard for failing to commit to a long-term target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"Mr Howard doesn't recognise the urgency of climate change," he said.

Labor has committed to a carbon reduction target of 60 per cent by 2050.

Rudd has also described the government's climate change report, released yesterday, as flawed because it fails to set a long-term target for cutting emissions.

He says only he can be trusted to deliver.

"Mr Howard has had 11 years to set an emissions target but he's failed to do so," he said.

"Mr Howard has had 11 years to establish an emissions trading scheme and he's failed to do so.

"Delegates, this is clearly now beyond dispute. The only way to bring about change on climate change is to change the government itself."

Earlier this week, Rudd was criticised by the powerful WA secretary of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Kevin Reynolds, for failing to understand unions and for backtracking on industrial relations.

Today, the Labor leader reaffirmed his commitment to keep the Australian Building and Construction Commission until January 2010.

"Certainty, it's critical for the future of the construction industry and we will not tolerate the return of any unlawful practices," he said.

He says it is clear the construction industry needs a strong cop on the beat.

Rudd says as for WorkChoices, he will get rid of the laws "lock, stock and barrel".
