In an interview on CNN International's Your World Today, veteran journalist Seymour Hersh explains that the current violence in Lebanon is the result of an attempt by the Lebanese government to crack down on a militant Sunni group, Fatah al-Islam, that it formerly supported.
Last March, Hersh reported that American policy in the Middle East had shifted to opposing Iran, Syria, and their Shia allies at any cost, even if it meant backing hardline Sunni jihadists.
A key element of this policy shift was an agreement among Vice President Dick Cheney, Deputy National Security Advisor Elliot Abrams, and Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the Saudi national security adviser, whereby the Saudis would covertly fund the Sunni Fatah al-Islam in Lebanon as a counterweight to the Shia Hezbollah.
Hersh points out that the current situation is much like that during the conflict in Afghanistan in the 1980's – which gave rise to al Qaeda – with the same people involved in both the US and Saudi Arabia and the "same pattern" of the US using jihadists that the Saudis assure us they can control.
When asked why the administration would be acting in a way that appears to run counter to US interests, Hersh says that, since the Israelis lost to them last summer, "the fear of Hezbollah in Washington, particularly in the White House, is acute."
As a result, Hersh implies, the Bush administration is no longer acting rationally in its policy. "We're in the business of supporting the Sunnis anywhere we can against the Shia. ... "We're in the business of creating ... sectarian violence." And he describes the scheme of funding Fatah al-Islam as "a covert program we joined in with the Saudis as part of a bigger, broader program of doing everything we could to stop the spread of the Shia world, and it just simply -- it bit us in the rear."

Regarding false flag operations
When you want to stage a false-flag operation, do you need a vast conspiracy?
No.
The formula is always the same.
You only need to find one man who is willing to do your dirty work.
One man who is ruthless and power-mad.
One man who is murderous, psychopathic, and weak.
Such a man can accomplish a great deal of evil.
In Gaza, that one man is Mohammed Dahlan.
When Hamas and Fatah agreed to join two months ago, Palestinians wanted a unified government so badly that there seemed no way to stop it. Bush and israel had a problem.
Enter Elliot Abrams, the ultra-zionist Jew who is Bush’s Middle East policy chief. He went to Fatah President Mahmoud Abbas, and told Abbas to install Mohammed Dahlan as “security advisor" for Fatah.
Elliot Abrams, you may recall, recently told zionist Jew Republicans in the U.S. Congress that Condoleeza Rice’s words meant nothing. Abrams assured zionists that nothing would change in Palestine.
Technically, Mohammed Dahlan is subordinate to Abbas, but everyone in Gaza knows that Dahlan controls the Fatah group. Abbas cannot control him. Abbas has no political base of his own. He is entirely dependent on Mohammed Dahlan. He is the public face for Dahlan, and will probably retire to his former exile lodgings in Qatar soon. He will be replaced by Mohammed Dahlan -- unless Hamas can get Dahlan first.
Abbas was enthusiastic about the merger of Fatah and Hamas. He has always favored negotiation and cooperation.
Mohammed Dahlan, by contrast, is a warlord. He gets arms and money from Elliot Abrams. Whenever Fatah and Hamas get too cozy, Dahlan sends out his thugs to kill fellow Palestinians, thus increasing tensions again.
Hamas knows their enemy is not Fatah, or Abbas. Their enemy is Bush, israel, and Mohammed Dahlan. If they can find Mohammed Dahlan, they will liquidate him.
Hamas is not fighting against Fatah, but against a corrupt warlord.

TO REPEAT
In perpetrating false flag operations, you only need to find one person, or a handful of persons, that have no morals whatever. Then you give them arms and cash. Since the psychopath has no morals, he has no shame, and is therefore hard to catch. And even if he is caught, you work your magic to get him free.
Therefore, when we see false flag killing and bombings in Iraq, Palestine, and elsewhere, the perpetrators are not necessarily Mossad.
They are often home-grown psychopaths that work for Mossad, or for Bush.
You already know this, but it is good to pinpoint the exact people involved, like Elliot Abrams and Mohammed Dahlan.
TOP US-ISRAELI NEOCON BEHIND PALESTINIAN UNREST.
Elliot Abrams, a long-standing neoconservative, well-known Greater Israel Zionist and currently Deputy National Security Advisor, is reportedly behind not only the current violence between Hamas and Fatah, particularly the fighting in the Gaza, but also the violence in Lebanon.
To most people who are familiar with Abrams history this assertion will not come as any surprise; his role in the notorious Iran-Contra affair of the 1980s is well known. Abrams is well versed in the art of playing off one set of peoples against another in order to achieve an outcome that ultimately is not in the interests of either but only in the interests of the US and/or Israel. This current situation among Palestinians is no exception.

As we know the US backed Lebanese Military is attacking a CIA backed militia in a Palestinian refugee camp. Meanwhile Israel is attacking Gaza daily.
Dr. Gershon Baskin tells us "[t]he State of Israel is on the defensive. Next month, pro-Palestinian groups across the world will be marking 40 years of occupation with calls for protests and boycott. The anti-Zionist movement is picking up speed. The entire world is against the occupation."
You don't suppose this wholesale killing is a propaganda campaign cooked up by Eliott Abrams and the Israel lobby to try make the Palestinians look bad?
Or to cover what it's doing in the Occupied Territories, while stoking conflict with Lebanon and Syria ...
