The latest...
On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, the seven vessel battle group, the USS Bataan, sailed through the Suez canal on the way to the Persian Gulf, joining the carrier USS Dwight D. Eisennhower, and many other warships already in the Persian Gulf, while the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis and a fleet of accompanying warships continue to head toward the Gulf, and are due to arrive sometime later in February.
Today, Tuesday, February 6th, Iran has responded to the growing buildup of American forces in the Gulf.

"Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said that Iran is fully prepared to teach a lesson to possible aggressors to make them repent of such a measure forever... Concerning the US hostile approach to Iran and the possibility of its getting prepared for an attack aiming to annihilate the country's nuclear installations, he underlined readiness to confront any threat. "By resorting to psychological war, the US attempts to exert pressure on Iran. But such methods will rather increase the problems and complications facing the American forces in the region," he added."
It has also been announced on Tuesday that Iran will now be sending forces into the Gulf as a symbolic confrontation against the American forces stationed there. Starting on Wednesday, February 7th, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards will be launching war games in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman involving both its airforce and navy units.
The obvious message being sent to Washington is that Iran intends to respond to any American attack by refusing to surrender and rather that Iran intends to respond by going to war with the United States.
