STITCHING UP DEMOCRACY: the "war inquiry" debate: what it took to "fix" it

A BIT OF democracy | 01.11.2006 12:46 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

Democracy "reflects the majority opinion in the population. The percentage of British people that think the iraq war was a "stitch up" is certainly over 50 % ( - in the USA too, so with mid-term elections approaching, thats a factor) . . . . So, when all the "opposition" factions unite around a vote for a near immediate inquiry into how this came about, with lots of people in the square, showing support. . . . ?

. . . . what happened there then?
THE CLUE IS IN THE PLACARDS . . . . but that doesnt explain everything.
The ministerial assistants bit of this fix was to talk about the "Aberdeen factor" - in westminster-speak, a reference to a bloke that lost a vote over having a different inquiry, ages ago, then "had to resign".
The peace movement was stitched with the "back-me-or-sack-me" idiocy to get INTO this stupid, unnecessary war
(containment was working, wmd-inspection efforts had worked, EVEN successful regime change COULD HAVE occurred with a combination of further efforts to get a SENSIBLE "economic blockade" that was SPECIFIC,( EFFECTUAL, rather than punishing the people into the arms of a dictator) - with, say, the dropping of radio stations, printing presses, food, etc rather than bombs . . . .THE OTHER WAYS DID EXIST.) (EFFECTUAL economic blockades are unpopular with a few of the dodgier corporations, even the old cash laundry cartels that have track records of creating slushfunds to pay for old operators interference in the internal workings of democracies. . . . but thats a different **** **** **** **** )
. . . . to have placards that said "GO" when we were THAT near to getting a vote for the inquiry - that is going to happen anyway - but - against the government - that little bit of extra international pressure in the run up to the USA elections - might have further allowed the democracies, in this "war for democracy", to have shown they actually remained democracies.

A last gasp bit of "spin" from the profiteers against the uncovering of the plots, perhaps, but it worked, when we shouldnt have let it work - WE ARE WAKING UP, after all, but it shows the need to WAKE UP a bit further. . . .
the sight of scores of "illegal" tents appearing by the single structure of the "legal loophole" lone protester, this weekend, showed we have got to a "moment".
THE TENTS WERE ALLOWED TO REMAIN.
PICTURES OF TENTS TORN DOWN COULDNT GET ALLOWED TO APPEAR IN CNNs COVERAGE THIS WEEK ? ? ? ?

When the "minderbinder" faction - that seems to try to profiteer from the wars, from playing everybody against each other, that claims, at times, to control the vertical as much as the horizontal - BACKS AWAY from you - thats when you can see you are winning.
All the different factions in parliament agree with the need for this - as, also, in the USA, G.O.P campaigners vow to CLEAN HOUSE - either outcome, despite the machinations that have occurred AMONGST them, as much as in the "usual dem-rep underground hardball" . . . .

reference, also " usa election update " s, in these newswires.
