IAF Strike ON UN POst Intentional - Israeli Spy Reveals 'Crisis' Was Pre-Planned

Various | 26.07.2006 14:50 | Lebanon War 2006 | Anti-militarism | World

Israel has a precedent of targeting UN personnel, especially when they've 'dared' to criticize the actions of Zionist Extremists. New facts reveal that the Olmert Government planned this entire 'crisis' months ago, furthering fears that this is all part of a plan to spread war to Iran and Syria - since the people who said "Saddam has nukes!!" couldn't dupe the world into legitimizing their Aggression.

I fear the 'International Force' proposed for the region may be sent into a trap designed by the Neo-Fascists who want war.

UN: Precision missiles hit UNTSO post
By AMIR MIZROCH, JPOST.COM STAFF AND AP

UN military personnel on the ground along the Israel-Lebanon border say the munitions that hit the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) position early Wednesday were precision-guided, a UN source told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.

Furthermore, the source added, the strike came after repeated requests by UNTSO commanders to the IDF not to strike that specific position.
The IDF spokesman told The Jerusalem Post that the army was looking into the allegations and that it deeply regretted the "tragic death" of the UN personnel.

UNTSO was the first peacekeeping mission established by the UN.

"Very senior and experienced military personnel report that the UN position was hit by a precision-guided missile. This attack comes at a time when the international community is in discussions with countries about donating troops to form a new force [to send to south Lebanon]. This attack plays very badly into that. At the same time as donor countries have to justify to their electorate the idea of sending their sons to this region to put their lives on the line, Israel blows up a UN observation position and kills four of its personnel," the source said, adding that Israel was "shooting itself in the foot, and sending a very bad signal" to the international community.

"At a time when [United Nations humanitarian chief Jan] Egeland is trying to establish a humanitarian aid corridor to Lebanon, the situation on the ground could turn catastrophic if soldiers on the ground are not clearly instructed not to do things like this. The UN is delighted that the Israeli government has launched an investigation into this incident and awaits the findings of the probe," the source said.

Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert expressed "deep regret" over the strike on the UNTSO post.

UN chief Kofi Annan said Israel appeared to have struck the site deliberately.

Olmert said the peacekeepers were killed mistakenly and expressed dismay over Annan's accusation, according to a statement by Olmert's office. The prime minister promised a thorough investigation and said the results would be presented to Annan.

Israel's UN Ambassador Dan Gillerman expressed his "deep regret" for the deaths and denied Israel hit the post intentionally.

"I am shocked and deeply distressed by the hasty statement of the secretary-general, insinuating that Israel has deliberately targeted the UN post," he said, calling the assertions "premature and erroneous."

The IDF said in response that it deeply regretted the "tragic death" of the UN personnel and vowed to investigate the incident.

The bomb made a direct hit on the building and shelter of the observer post in the town of Khiyam near the eastern end of the border with Israel, said Milos Struger, spokesman for the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon known as UNTSO.

Rescue workers were trying to clear the rubble, but Israeli firing "continued even during the rescue operation," Struger said.

The victims included observers from Austria, Canada, China and Finland, UN and Lebanese military officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information to the media.

As reports of the attack emerged, Annan rushed out of a hotel in Rome following a dinner with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora.

Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Gillerman said "Israel is carrying out a thorough inquiry into this tragic incident and will inform the UN of its results as soon as possible."

US Ambassador John Bolton said the Security Council was informed that four officers were killed, but he had no other information.

"We're obviously very sorry about that. We're attempting to get information where we can to confirm the nature of the incident," Bolton said.

U.N.: Israeli airstrike hits U.N. observer post

You have to wonder just what it was the observers could have seen - or that might be coming - that Israel didn't want them to see and report.

With 14 strikes at the same target at close range within one day, it is obvious the Israeli military wanted these observers killed.

And what will the UN do? Thanks to US veto power on any resolution condemning Israel, absolutely nothing.

An Israeli spy network arrested in Lebanon

Saturday, July 22, 2006 - 02:50 PM

BEIRUT, July 22 (SANA)

Lebanese intelligence services have arrested a spy network working for Israel since long years ago, Lebanese A-Safir daily newspaper reported Saturday.

" The confession of suspects could lead to the exposure of a number of unactive spy cells working for Israel on Lebanese soil," the paper added in an article.

The paper quoted a well-informed source as saying that activities of this spy network exceeded what Mahmoud Rafa network which already uncovered has done.

" Members of the network, using developed technologies and communication apparatuses, facilitated selection of certain goals in Beirut's southern suburb through putting signs guiding the Israeli aircrafts to those targets," the papers indicated.

" One of the prominent figures in the network confessed that Israel has put itself on the alert 4 days before arrest of the two Israeli soldiers and provided its inactive spy cells with directives and technologies regarding targeting centers and headquarters of Hizbullah party in all Lebanese territories particularly in the Beirut's southern suburb.
