On the 3rd May thousands of police entered the village of Texcoco, 15 miles away from San Salvador Atenco, Mexico, and brutally harassed, detained, sexual violated, ‘disappeared’ & even killed ordinary people and residents for daring to dream, live that dream, and defend it from state repression. The police were being used as hired goons to supposedly remove street flower sellers, answering market forces' orders to clear the way for a new WALMART superstore. These street flower sellers were members of the People’s Front United in Defence of the Land (FPDT), a campesino organisation based in nearby San Salvador Atenco municipality that grew out of a successful, very militant struggle in 2001 and 2002 against plans to build a new international airport for Mexico City on local farmland. They then declared San Salvador Atenco an Autonomous Municipality. We will demonstrate outside the Mexican embassy in solidarity with those affected. The Mexican embassy is at 16 St George Street, Hanover Sq. London W1S 1LX. More info at www.indymedia.org.uk/en/topics/zapatista
