Byelorussia is not the Ukraine nor is Georgia. This is no "orange or rose" revolution. And as our peer group begin to report "possible deaths" it is time to give them the support they ask for.
We need not go into Byelorussia history, we need not touch on the possible presence of a CIA rendition secret prison.
We need not remind ourselves that even our old friend Soros (where are you now Georgie & how's the memory?) saw his team booted out of minsk after being question at Okristina street in 1997.
Nope, we don't need to touch that.
We just need to remember that is now Saturday night / Sunday morning. And things can go really bad on weekends, especially if no-one reads what you're saying, and can understand your language.
we don't even need to remember that the conservative alliance who presently govern Poland teamed up with Radio Liberty to broadcast into Byelorussia from March 19th onwards.
Here's a map of minsk

Here's the latest report in translation from "Thistle"
In an organized way columns of demonstrators are moving to Okrestina st. (special prison is located there). Police don’t detain them so far. There are about 5000-7000 of demonstrators. They are going by pavements towards a hospital, show-center and further to Okrestina. On each of the four sides of the Kupala park there are 10 buses with riot squads, 700-750 policemen from each side.
On Okrestina policemen of all kinds continue to amass, there are already arrived:
- 3 armored trucks (the ones that have earlier been used to convey the arrested demonstrators from the October square). They are full with special forces (in black uniform, masks and helmets)
- 3 buses – inside there are riot squads fully equipped
- cars with policemen – 7-8 vehicles
--- 16:16
Special forces have blocked the column from two sides on the Dzerzhinskii ave. At 16:10 riot squads started to blow up something at the head of the column!…

the arrested goto trial today, as new protests planned

Strong protests have been made by both the EU and USA in defence of their universal rights to freedom of assembly, association and speech. In addition subtle protests were made on behalf of the Russia State in direct relation to 7 Russian citizens detained for "disorderly behaviour". The EU focussed on "one leader of the opposition", the USA called for release of all protesters, and the Russians ran into Okristina street (maybe they remember the secret tunnel) to chat with their 7 citizens.

Belarus retorted that it was all a wicked Washington/Brussels plot to overthrow their beloved regime with techno, hippy tents, polish radio and all in time for the Ukraine parliamentary elections. Apparently the west applies "double standards". Strange, if protesters were arrested here in breach of their universal rights to pitch a tent, climb up into a tree, graffiti a war memorial, burn a mc donalds, &c.., I'd agree with them. But here we have utopia.
Surely we do. Why can't they see that? Join us! Meritocracy is cool.

But financial sanctions will go into place, making ordinary Belorussians even poorer, and child prostitutes cheaper. We will also not see the president in any of our cities soon, as he joins Zimbabwe on the "not welcome list".
and another punishment will probably be a block on the Belarus application to join the Council of Europe, (larger than the EU the CE is our framework on human rights co-operation, is investigating allegations of rendition flights to Belarus)
So you will note that Belarus is not a member of the 46 states of the Council of Europe. it is in application to join over 800million other citizens who adhere to various declarations on human rights

Wouldn't it just be easier to nuke them?
One of the "important detainees" has been released. Russian journalist Pavel Sheremet

His companion and 5 others have not.
2 have so far been sentanced to a fortnight in jail.
Its seems average sentances will be around 2 weeks.
Meanwhile another leader of the opposition parties (Alexander Milinkevich) who last week criticised arrested Alexander Kozulin to Moscow news agencies for not informing him of his intentions has now announced his plans to organise more protest rallies.
This is well and good, there are no simple "two sides" one pro-EU/USA and the other pro-Putin/"USSR".
