The latest Shortwave Report (February 24) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)
This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- Geo Bush asked India to separate its civilian and military nuclear programs. In his latest tape, Osama bin Laden accused the US of using the same barbaric tactics used by Saddam Hussein.
From NETHERLANDS- A journalist from Al-Jazeera discusses the stance being taken by the US and Israel toward the new government of Palestine. A Turkish movie called "Valley of the Wolves" won the jury prize at the Cannes film festival- German politicians are moving to ban the film which presents US troops in Iraq in a very negative light. A bomb that destroyed a Shiite mosque in Iraq on Tuesday could greatly magnify the civil war- an analyst explains the significance of this attack.
From CUBA- The Iraqi police force is suspected of being a death squad, illegally detaining, torturing and murdering at will- later stories linked them to the bombing of the Shiite mosque on Tuesday. Then a Viewpoint on proposed changes to the UN Human Rights Commission, which would give complete control to 5 members of the Security Council, rather than the entire body of nations.
From RUSSIA- The 4 young Iraqi protesters beaten by British troops in front of a camera have filed a lawsuit against the soldiers. John McCain has urged the members of the G-8 council to boycott their upcoming meeting because Russia holds the chair this time, and has the wrong kind of economy and the wrong kind of democracy. Then a commentary on the Hamas victory in Palestine, which is seen as a hopeless situation by Israel and the US.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
