The latest Shortwave Report (January 27) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:56)
This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- Iran responded positively to Russia's offer to enrich uranium for their nuclear power plants, but made threats to renew their own project if referred to the UN Security Council. There is still no agreement between Russia and Ukraine on delivery of natural gas. The European investigation into secret CIA prisons in Eastern Europe said there is evidence of a system of outsourcing of torture by the US..
From NETHERLANDS- Canadian voters elected a conservative government for the first time in 12 years- but the new Prime Minister Stephen Harper is leading a minority government and his hands may be tied on many of his issues. The British government is being sued by servicemen injured in the Iraq occupation, who say that the government is not providing medical and psychiatric care for them.
From CUBA- A report on the International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes Against Humanity, which is considering charges against Geo Bush- Scott Ritter pointed out that the invasion of Iraq was to force regime change, not disarmament. Then a Viewpoint on the status of Luis Posada Carriles, an international terrorist being protected by the Bush administration.
From RUSSIA- Following the bombing of powerlines and natural gas pipelines to Georgia, the Georgian government accused Russia of perpetrating the terrorist acts- Russia denies the charges. The Russian Defense Minister has said that Russia might withdraw from the Treaty of Conventional Armed Forces in Europe- because NATO countries are insisting that Russia withdraw armed forces from Georgia- while the US and NATO create new bases in Eastern Europe.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
