I do not suppose that you are aware of this scam in the country's universities.
The education system is failing because the teachers are scamming the system - it is bot more teachers that are needed - it is less dishonest teachers that are needed ion the UK.
Here, for example is ONE SCAM:
University lecturers who write books do so in university time- they must do - how else can one collect £35,000 a year incl;uding full final saley bennefits, fifteen weeks holidays a year and write books . These books should be the property of these universities and all profits and income from them must go to the universities.
NONE OF THIS HAPPENS. IT ALL GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE LECTURERS POCKETS.
£35,000.00 annual salary plus £30000 for a good Sweet & Maxwell or Butterworths book. It is simply sickening. And who "TEACHES" the students whilst these PRIVILEGED persons take sabbaticals on full pay, so as to write their book?
Temps paid at £6 when you include prepatation and adminbistration. It is SICKENING.
AND A SCAM WHICH THE WHOLW WORLD SHOULD KNOW ABOUT. Employment Rights Act in the UK gives no employee absolute protection from being sacked EXCEPT THE SITUATION FOR PROFESSORS. PROFESSORS ARE ELECTED/NOMINATED BY THEIR FRIENDS IN THE SAME UNIVERSITY. WHEN ONE BECOMES A PROFESSOR, ONE IS ENTITLED IN THE UK, TO A CONTRACT WHICH STATES THAT ONE CAN NEVER BE SACKED AND ONE IS GUARANTEED £50,000.00 A YEAR TO SIT AT HOME AND THINK AND WRITE BOOKS DFOR ONE'S OWN PROFIT. WHAT IS MORE, THIS IS IN BREACH OF THE EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS ACT, BECAUSE YOU CANNOT REMOVE A PROFESSOR, OF A UK UNIVERSITY.
MONEY FOR OLD ROPE.

Bad mark?

The basic answers are:
1. Academics who write textbooks do not (maybe with a few exceptions) do it to line their own pockets, but to improve the teaching of their subject in all universities and colleges and benefit all students.
2. Teaching in HE and FE is not a 5 days a week, 9-5 then go home job. Many academics work long irregular hours teaching, tutoring, marking, preparing, doing admin, researching and yes, writing too.
Have you just got a bad mark for your essay or something, poster? Maybe it was your spelling...
