Death film shortlisted to win largest Film Prize in Europe.

A Swansea filmmaker has been shortlisted for the largest short film prize in Europe- the DM Davies Award. The Cardiff Screen Festival announced the 6 short-listed Welsh filmmakers yesterday. Helen Iles of the video group, undercurrents was told the exciting news today.
A jury of filmmakers, actors and media professionals will announce the winner at the Awards ceremony at 7pm on Friday the 18th of November in Cardiff.
The Top 6 films short-listed for the 2005 Award are:
Life Before Death (Helen Iles from Swansea)
Mabel (Wyndham Price from Cardiff)
Dawn (Shreepali Patel from Cardiff)
The Playhouse (Dafydd Bedwyr Hughes from Trawsfynydd)
Carmen (Massimo Salvato from Newport)
Say it With Flowers (Wyn Mason from Cardiff)
Berwyn Rowlands, Artistic Director of the Cardiff Screen Festival, and founder of the Award, said;
“The award sponsors were totally convinced that Wales is a country of talented filmmakers and, in particular, they were impressed with the craft skills on show”
Previous winners of the award include Justin Kerrigan director of Human Traffic and Sara Sugarman (Very Annie Mary).
Helen Iles, Filmmaker said today of being shortlisted;
”As an aspiring welsh filmmaker, the D.M. Davies Award has always been there as a mark of excellence. It’s amazing even to be shortlisted. To win would be a huge boost to my confidence. It would open so many doors.”
