The latest Shortwave Report (August 12) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:47)
This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From CHINA- The Palestinian foreign Minister has urged for a total Israeli withdrawal from occupied Palestinian land. The top US negotiator at the 6-party talks on N Korea says the prospect of eliminating nuclear development is uncertain. China is on track to launch a space mission to orbit the moon in 2007. The US says that Iran's move to restart nuclear development is a negative and provocative step.
From NETHERLANDS- Iran's new leader says the country is doing nothing illegal by enriching uranium, and an analyst says the media is hyping the story under pressure from the US. The former Prime Minister of the Netherlands says that on two occasions the CIA directed Dutch authorities to not arrest Abdul Kahn, Pakistani nuclear scientist. As the deadline nears for the Israeli pullout of Gaza, some settlers and demonstrators are saying they won't leave.
From RUSSIA- First a commentary on newly declassified documents that describe how it was that Israel developed nuclear weapons with the assistance of Britain's foreign office in 1958. Another commentary on the US role in Uzbekistan politics, where the US military has been told to leave its bases behind, despite Rumsfeld's personal appeal.
From CUBA- A Viewpoint on the case of the Cuban 5, who have had their convictions in the US overturned because of prejudice of the trial in Miami. The Cuban 5 claim that they came to the US to infiltrate right-wing Cuban-American groups who were planning terrorist attacks on Castro.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
