The latest Shortwave Report (April 8) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, China Radio International, and the Voice Of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- A press review covering Tony Blair's announcement of early elections in Britain. The Algerian government has published a report on the disappearance of at least 6000 Algerians in the 1990’s, during the governments war on Islamic militants. Then a press review on the worsening racist activities in the Netherlands, this time focusing on the youth.
From CUBA- A Viewpoint on the various groups in the US who have used the name "Minutemen," the latest incarnation being a paramilitary group in Arizona attempting to stop illegal immigration from Latin America. The US State Department has told Israel it must renounce nuclear weapons, including the 200 warheads it possesses. In regional elections over the weekend in Italy, the party of Prime Minister Berlusconi was soundly defeated- many consider this directly linked to Italy's continued involvement in the occupation of Iraq.
From CHINA- Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams has appealed directly to the IRA to end the armed struggle in N Ireland, following pressure from the governments of England, the US, and Ireland. China says there should not be a timetable for the reform of the UN Security Council, nor should the 2 reform proposals on the table be the only possibilities. Kofi Annan has presented 4 new envoys to promote UN reforms, and the Irish envoy stressed the importance of respect for human rights.
From RUSSIA- Rebellions and suicide bombings have spread through the prisons in Iraq, increasing American violence against the Iraqi prisoners and soldiers of the American allies. The ex-foreign minister of France wrote an editorial about elections and the spreading of democratic principles in the middle east.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative-
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
