A US soldier who fled the US in January, and is seeking refugee status in Canada told immigration officials on Tuesday "that the war in Iraq is illegal and fighting in it would have made him a war criminal. He also said he would face persecution if forced to return to the United States because he likely would be court-marshaled and sentenced to an Army jail."
