KERRY WON. HERE'S THE FACTS,PROTESTS AGAINST STOLEN ELECTION PLANNED ACROSS U.S.

Greg Palast, United for Peace and Justice | 04.11.2004 20:29 | Analysis | Repression | London | World

I know you don't want to hear it. You can't face one more hung chad. But I don't have a choice. As a journalist examining that messy sausage called American democracy, it's my job to tell you who got the most votes in the deciding states. Tuesday, in Ohio and New Mexico, it was John Kerry.

by Greg Palast

Bush won Ohio by 136,483 votes. Typically in the United States, about 3 percent of votes cast are voided—known as “spoilage” in election jargon—because the ballots cast are inconclusive. Palast’s investigation suggests that if Ohio’s discarded ballots were counted, Kerry would have won the state. Today, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports there are a total of 247,672 votes not counted in Ohio, if you add the 92,672 discarded votes plus the 155,000 provisional ballots.

Greg Palast, contributing editor to Harper's magazine, investigated the manipulation of the vote for BBC Television's Newsnight. The documentary, "Bush Family Fortunes," based on his New York Times bestseller, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, has been released this month on DVD .

Kerry won. Here's the facts.

that Mr Palast has gone and checked all the hanging chads himself.
and that he can tell that the majority of them were cast by African Americans. [why this assertion? does he think them too stupid to punch the card correctly?]

sad loser

thanks, greg

Look now we have optical scanners to vote on. All you people do is complain, and make things worse. Now they got us giving into scanning our faces, and next a chip in the forehead. If anything the computer seems like it could be screwed up. Like on our propositions here in skewed California. The water-down three strikes law was passing, and then mysteriously by the next day it was defeated. California is in more debt under Arnold than Davis, but yet a 4-6 billion dollar handout was voted to the pharmaceutical companies. An insurance proposition which would have given insurance to people working in companies with more than 60 employees was defeated!! Are people in California really on the left? Or is this state just occupied by the so-called illuminati. Arnold is from Bohemian Grove.

WE lost because you have dogged Christians!!! You lost you Democratic base in the bible belt. We no longer mean anything to you people.

My reading of it was that the "lost votes" were from districts with a largely African-American population - hence it's not so much a stretch of the imagination that most of the missing votes would have come from African-Americans.

Whether this is true or a case of wishful thinking remains to be seen ...

Why Bush won

05.11.2004 12:36

In response to Happy:

Bush won for several reasons.
Money was one, the US political system is corrupt. So much money is paid by corporations for favours.

The biggest reason though, is Bush campaigned deliberately to appeal to the biggoted so-called Christians in the bible belt. These people do not think about the bible, they just use it to bolster their biggotry.
The bible says that being gay is a sin (a fact that is debatable anyway). In the same book it also says you should not eat pork. You should not wear clothes made of two types of cloth and a whole host of other things chosen to be ignored because they're inconvenient.
The worst thing to be ignored however are the teachings of Christ. Turn the other cheek. Give up your riches to the poor and follow Jesus.
If Bush were a Christian he'd follow the teachings of Jesus, those of tolerance, humility, and generally being nice to people. Not those of the Dollar. Accumulate more money, more power and hate those who are different.

Bush has also created a climate of fear. He was the least popular president ever until 9/11 which he cynically used to his advantage. To degrade people's basic civil and human rights for his and his friend's own ends and went to war on false pretenses.
Osama Bin Laden is the biggest friend Bush has at the moment. And Bush and his friends are the biggest recruiting seargents for the anti-western.

Is Bush doing 'godly' work?
No, he is killing people. He is seeking money. He is not turning the other cheek, he is actively seeking victims. Does he care about his fellow man? No he cares about his power and his money.

And as for the Bush family's 'family values'. Welcoming a close family member's mistress into the home... yeah, great. Sod his wife and children.

And Gay Marriage is no threat to the family. War is a far greater one. It will destroy families. There will be more illegitimate children.

Bush is as christian as Osama Bin Laden is islamic. That is, not at all.
