GIPP CALL FOR ACTION
SOWETO 1976. RAFAH 2004

The latest events in Rafah remind us of Soweto (in South Africa) when
hundreds of high-school students marched in protest against the racist
Apartheid system in 1976. In this event, the racist Apartheid police
killed
and injured several students. International pressure combined with
economic
boycott and sanctions led to the fall of this racist Apartheid regime.
The latest massacre, committed by the Israeli occupation army against
the
Palestinian civilian population in Rafah, coincided with the
construction of
the oppressive Wall of Apartheid inside the 1967 occupied Palestinian
territories, which is not merely dispossessing the Palestinians of
their
land and water resources and destroying the livelihood of thousands of
families as well as their environment, but is also rendering the
establishment of a Palestinian State impossible as Palestinian land is
being
gradually grabbed and divided into ghettos.
Join us in our protests and boycott actions in order to save lives of
innocent Israelis and Palestinians and create awareness within your
communities about the danger the Israeli government policies pose not
only
to the survival of the Palestinian people but also to peace in the
region
and the world as a whole.

We call on you to join us in two main actions:

1. Initiation of sanctions against the Israeli government

2. Activate sending delegations for the protection of the
Palestinian
people - we urge solidarity groups to send as many people as possible
during
the summer months to participate in activities of solidarity and
protection
of the Palestinian people.

Here are some of the suggested actions brought by our supporters as
forms of
protests and sanctions against the Israeli government:

1. Demand the establishment of an international criminal tribunal on
Israeli
war crimes.

2. Demand that states ban the entry into their territory of all Israeli
officials who have been promoting, condoning, abetting, designing and
executing acts defined as international crimes under international law,
including war crimes.

3. Initiate actions to end economic, trade and scientific research
agreements with Israel as long as it continues to violate these
agreements
and/or humanitarian law

4. Call for a civilian boycott on all official Israeli organizations
and
institutions.

We would like to insist that these sanctions are not directed against
the
Israeli people but against the Israeli government which threatens the
security and well being of both Israelis and Palestinians, and any
potential
for peace and a peaceful resolution based on a two-state-solution. We
were
left with no other choice but to suggest the above actions as the only
remaining means in the face of the feeling of impunity that Israel
enjoys
towards the violations of international humanitarian law.

Thank you for your support in this crucial matter.
