Elections today Democracy tomorrow

RAKMEENAK | 15.04.2004 05:10 | Social Struggles | London | World

Democracy soon will be an old hag; tormented by fear and afflicted by nightmares. The elections will continue to exist for namesake. The rulers will be the brokers of democracy selling every remaining rag at the price of people’s fortune.

Democracy soon will be an old hag; tormented by fear and afflicted by nightmares. The elections will continue to exist for namesake. The rulers will be the brokers of democracy selling every remaining rag at the price of people’s fortune.

The election process is at the peak now. The electorates are dazzling in the full swing. Lots of money is being spent to win the race; time for the senators to replenish their tankards. The promises are flowing with high speed. The price of the democracy is being stipulated. Lots of castles are getting build in the sky. The vote market is getting hotter and hotter; at least a respite when no one is thinking of stock market. The public is stoically calm.

The brokers have already decided their share. They don’t care whoever wins as long as their stratagems get realized. They have already placed their stakes and are now bidding for people’s fortune.

The beggars are having a good time. They know which place to choose for begging. They are going to haggle for a penny too and be intransigent. They are familiar with the dunderheads and won’t take any chance of loosing a dime.

This is the time when the ostracized are brought back from servitude to participate in the rallies and campaigns. They have been temporarily imbued with a sense of patriotism. It is a party time! And time to revel.

The economists are speculating about the market. The scientific inventions are at hold because we don’t know if the new government will approve the budget.

The dams are getting build; electricity is promised to remote villages; more jobs are getting created; sanitary water will reach to every house; new roads will be laid; more transport will be provided; and hey! You name it, we will provide it.

On the other hand the hunt for Bin Laden and Aman Al-Zawari is relentless and every effort to bring them before the public faces will continue till the people are on their way to hit the ballot boxes.

In US, the Bush administration has been disparaged for handling the Iraq situation in a chaotic way. While almost all the holes in Afghanistan have been bombarded, yet there is no trace of Al Qaeda leaders. Taking the advantage of this precarious situation, Kerry is putting all his efforts to prove Bush a complete failure and reproach his preposterous plans. It is very prominent that whoever wins the elections have to take out his shoes for sorting and cleaning the muddle.

Will Kerry be able to handle the situation and his country’s diplomatic policies? Some Americans may doubt.

It is very likely that Kerry getting harried by all the devastation that has surfaced in last couple of years. But right now who cares! Kerry must be desperate to have an afternoon snooze in White house; and the air trips in Air Force One overwhelming him.

Is he worried about the terrorist activities that are still inexorable? Well in past they have proved their superiority at Bali, Madrid, Iraq and now in Uzbekistan. This signifies that they have their foothold in almost every country of the world. Soon we may hear more untoward events in the countries that supported Iraq war. There should not be any surprise if they keep on striking at other places. Their networks are still strong, active, and a serious threat to millions of lives.

While Kerry and Bush will be fighting on their White house residency, their guests must be planning other destructions worldwide. Thanks to the international politics and international institutions that gives them ample time to implement their vicious plans.

While Bush has taken an oath to emancipate the suppressed, he must not relent. To fulfill this pledge of his, he has every right to be a prodigal, callous or irascible. He should not relent till every suppressed is liberated or attains an eternal emancipation.

Is there any solution to handle this outcry?

Is it easy to solve the problem of Iraq and install a virtual democracy there?

Have we not read the history? Hitherto, the vendetta those communities have waged against each other is pertinacious and needs a grueling work for reconciliation. Starting from the war of Karbala, until the genocide of Shias during Saddam’s regime, are the evidences that the forthcoming government in Iraq will have no impact on the lives of the people. Unless we change their convictions and amend their folklores, a virtual democracy will not make any sense there.

Are we in desperate need of some transcendental influences that could cast some magic spells and make this world worth living?

Right now democracy is having peaceful slumbers.
