Democracy in Russia was being put on trials in the beginning of twentieth century. Czars were still holding the key posts with the big Czar at the top of the tree. This form was detested by the people and a democracy nestled in socialism was popping its head. Lot of people lost their lives to see this dream especially on the Bloody Sunday when the horrible carnage turned the snowbound streets red. Democracy remained a dream floundering in the fights among socialists, Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. Stalin – a rat killer ran a totalitarian government in which he killed all the revolutionaries.
Vladimir Putin — a former KGB spy, who succeeded Boris Yeltsin for the post of a President is again back to rule the country and align the remaining with the existing ruins.
Putin’s meetings with US President Bush for defeating terrorism and providing intelligence support to nab the terrorist cells have not fetched any fame to him. Despite his efforts for nuclear non-proliferation and extending a helping hand for humanitarian missions, he remains hidden under the ruins of tormented country. People have not yet forgotten the way he ordered to storm the theater and killed hundreds of civilians for the sake of vanity. How could he not prove his legacy?
Putin’s meetings with Chinese President Jiang Zemin for the growth of Sino-Russian ties was mere an exaggeration of vanity between the super powers.
Now couple of days ago, Putin celebrated a commanding victory and won second term as Russian President. How fair the elections were only Putin knows. The only thing we know is that his leadership is not going too have any slightest of the impact on the social or economical status of his country besides sending all rich persons of Russia to jail or exile. Let us see how far he reaches in building a genuine multi-party system. However he will not relent till the corruption reaches up to its hilt.
The dreams that Lenin and his folks dreamt for building a Russia has remained a dream only and vanished with the end of their revolution.
