The assassination of two zapatista supporters in Simojovel - the Assembly of Good Government "Centric Heart of the Zapatistas In front of the World" denounces this double murder and the system of impunity which allows such crimes.
We write to you to denounce the following events which happened in the municipality of Simojovel.
The 10 of February, Mr. Antonio Girón Gómez, his wife Isabela Perez Gutiérrez and their daughter Maria Elena Girón Perez, all zapatista supporters, left their house in Joltealal, municipality of Chalchihuitán, to buy medicines in the municipality of "El Bosque".
When returning to their house, at a suspension bridge located between Las Limas and San Antonio Naranjal, municipality of Simojovel, a stranger encountered them on the way and, without reason, he attacked them with a knife and machete.
Mr. Antonio Girón suffered 7 stab wounds on his body and a machete blow on the head, these injuries caused his instant death. Mrs. Isabela Perez Gutiérrez was seriously wounded in the leg and in her stomach, the reason why she was transferred to the regional hospital of Tuxtla Gutiérrez where she died on the 12 of February. Fortunately the daughter, Maria Elena was able to escape the aggressor without being injured.
The murder of these two people is very serious and must not remain in impunity, with no-one held responsible.
For that reason we demand that the official municipal authorities of Chalchihuitán and Simojovel investigate the causes of this crime and punish the assassin. In addition it is necessary that these same authorities compensate the affected family, because 4 children have been left orphans and abandoned. The authorities of Chalchihuitán and Simojovel must investigate and discover the truth about this murder and punish the person responsible, because otherwise they will be accomplices in this serious crime of maintaining impunity in this zone of Chiapas.
