Happening now in AIDA camp, Bethelehem, Palestine -Urgent- !!!!!

dispatcher | 02.02.2004 11:11 | Anti-militarism | Cambridge | World

Just received this chilling message from AIDA refugee camp in the West Bank, Palestine. The Israeli army has enetered the village, snipers hae been positioned and the little streets are filled with bullets, tear gas and sound bombs......

Monday February, 2 -10:45 am-

Since 2 days the israeli army continues to enter Aida camp. Aida camp is a permitted land to all the barbarism of savages in uniform who come, shoot and terrify the people in the camp. They are now, since one hour, 11:10 in the camp, occupied the roofs of some of the high houses in the camp. The jeeps are controlling the streets, but still there are some children throwing stones to say: get out of here. The camp is inundated with sound bombs and tear gas and bullets. Till now we do not now what is the purpose of this visit: to arrest a presumed terrorist? To demolish another house? or To just be in our company?

The ambulance just arrived. I can't get out of the house, a sniper is just on the roof facing our house.

Saturday -January 31st- 17:00-

After the explosion in the israeli bus in Alquds-Jerusalem, the Israeli army has invaded Bethléem, putting the whole city under curfew. Aida camp, since 2:30 this morning was full of soldiers who controlled all the streets and entrances to the camp. The curfew was total. The explosives experts placed their charges in the house of Ali J'ara, who made the explosion, à young man of 24 years old, who lived with his sick father, his mother, his brother and his 9 sisters in a 2 rooms house in Aida camp since about 10 years. The house was exploded at 12:45 this afternoon. Twelve houses were affected by the force of explosion, and three of them were deeply affected.

The young man has left a message that his act was an act of revenge for the massacre of the 13 palestiniens murdered by the oisraeli occupation soldiers in Azaytouna quarter in Gaza the day before.

After having inondated the camp with tear gas, the army withdrew from the camp and Bethlehem, leaving behind misery, destruction and tears. The army arrested 35 people, from Bethlehem, but non from Aida camp. Those arrested were family members for persons that Israeli army was looking for but didn't find, so he took their relatives so that those persons give themselves up.

Very little news have mentionned the massacre of Azaytouna in the media, but the explosion of the israeli bus in Alquds-Jerusalem havs deeserved the international attention. This violence will probably continue to contribute to the escalation of violence: because of course: certain are more equal than others... It will never be like this that we could help to make peace...
