Secret Grass roots peace plan for Middle East revealed.

Rebel W | 02.12.2003 01:52 | Repression | Social Struggles | World

Ex US President Jimmy Carter and a group from both sides of "the wall" revealed a secret peace plan for the Middle East in Geneva yesterday. While this isn't a real peace plan in the older sense, but its no difference in terms of the seriousness with which the planners have taken it. Those involved were committed to creating a just solution, being left leaning people themselves, and it will be interesting to see if this plan is to be taken on board by the justice movement in the west.

Israel warns US, world against supporting Geneva Initiative

 http://www.spacewar.com/2003/031130131453.0o6dqxs3.html

Also, from  http://www.whatreallyhappened.com :

"Unyielding Israeli PM deadlocks new peace initiative"

"Israel's Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, has rejected calls for a halt to Israeli settlement and fence-building in the West Bank as a precondition for a first meeting with his new Palestinian counterpart, Ahmed Qurie. The deadlock in efforts to revive Israel-Palestinian talks coincides with the launch of a new unofficial peace proposal in Geneva yesterday. Could it be any more obvious that Sharon does not want peace?"

Palestinians threaten US, world against Geneva accord

02.12.2003 18:38

"Thousands of Palestinians demonstrated in the Gaza Strip over the weekend to protest against the Geneva Accord, condemning the Palestinian architects of the plan as traitors.

Following noon prayers on Saturday, several thousand Hamas supporters marched toward the offices of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Gaza City, chanting slogans against the agreement and calling on Palestinians to boycott its signing ceremony early next month in Geneva.

"The Geneva agreement is a betrayal of Allah, his prophet, and the Palestinian people," read some of the placards carried by the protesters.

The Committee for the Defense of the Rights of Palestinian Refugees issued a statement in the Gaza Strip calling on Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat and his prime minister, Ahmed Qurei, to take a clear position against the Geneva Accord.

The statement warned that any Palestinian who travels to Geneva for the signing ceremony would be murdered as a traitor and collaborator.

"We urge all those who signed the defeatist draft agreement to openly rescind their decision and to boycott the ceremony," it added.

At another rally in the Jabalya refugee camp on Friday, about 4,000 Hamas and Islamic Jihad supporters, some wearing black hoods and holding up hand grenades, protested against the agreement. They too denounced the Palestinian negotiators involved in the talks leading up to the agreement as traitors.

"Those behind this document should be brought to trial because no one authorized them to talk on behalf of the Palestinian people and to betray us with this document," Nizar Rayan, a Hamas leader, told the crowd."
