Around 30 young gay and lesbian campaigners and supporters decended on the Kent
County Council's HQ in Maidstone Kent today. From 1200 demonstraters from
Queer Youth Alliance sported banners,made speeches and gave press&media interviews
to highlight the fact that Kent County Council has its own version of the hated
Section 28 which is due to be finally repealled nationally on Monday.
Campaigners also started collecting signatures calling for KCC policy to be dropped
and an initial petition was presented to council staff. A dozen or so people the
moved to the centre of Maidstone to demo and collect further signatures. These
are to be presented at KCC's next meeting in December.
Further actions are also to be planned.
