Eastcroft Incinerator: Views of the Monster

This what it looks like now ..... It's monsterous.

If the expansion had gone ahead [or still might, if WRG appeal and are successful] it would have looked even uglier.

Mischief Makers build giant syringe in support of NHS march on Saturday

20-09-2006 22:18 | Health | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Nottinghamshire

Community arts and creative activist collective The Mischief Makers have build a giant syringe in support of UNISON's march to 'Defend the NHS' on Saturday. The syringe will read 'Inject more into the NHS' and is made in an effort to show solidarity to NHS workers as well as acknowledging that the ongoing cuts in and privitisation of the National Health Service is something that should concern everyone. The Mischief Makers also hope to add a more creative element to Saturday's march and rally, organised by UNISON, UK's largest union. The march will start from 10.30am on the Forest Recreation Ground. Come along and show your support!

25-07-2006 12:31 | Analysis | Repression | Social Struggles | Nottinghamshire | World

Labour's ID scheme is supposedly on the rocks, but let’s not be overly comforted by this news. There are good reasons to continue to build up the pressure. In particular, passport developments in the UK Identity and Passport Service (IPS) and the European Union could result in alternative identity databases, and since the Act is on the statute books, compulsory ID could start at any future date.

The African Prison Project

07-07-2006 05:12 | Education | Repression | Social Struggles | Manchester | Nottinghamshire

Kenyan prisoners
An inspirational project set up in Nottingham.

The prison is severely overcrowded. Congestion precipitates the spread of infectious diseases that prevail due to malnutrition and a lack of hygiene, clean water and adequate health care. Prisoners exist in squalor without even the most basic of necessities. However, what the prison is perhaps most notorious for is its problem of gang rape, the existence of which, though frighteningly common-place, is often denied because of attitude towards homosexuality in East African society.
