No Borders activists dump jumpers on council leader

They dumped 100 jumpers in front of the panellists of the event entitled ‘The Right to the City’, held in the Town Hall, in a protest against immigration detention.

Protest at Manchester Uni for the rights of asylum seekers and refugees

Manchester University campaign group STAR (Student Action for Asylum Seekers and Refugees) is protesting outside the Student's Union at 12pm Friday 26th February. The protest is to highlight the injustice and unfairness of the aslyum system in the UK which prevents aslylum seekers from working. Protesters will shackle their hands to symbolise the restrictions placed on the persecuted and marginalised asylum seekers in this country. On Tuesday morning (13/01/09) Hermine was detained at the Reporting Centre at Dallas Court in Salford. She was taken to Dungavel IRC and is now on route to Yarl's Wood IRC. The Home Office has set removal directions for this Saturday, 17th January, on British Airways Flight BA302 06:15hrs from Heathrow to Paris, then on to Yaoundé, Cameroon. Read more >>

Foreign students are among those first affected; from today they have to attend the UK Border Agency's offices to be interrogated, photographed and fingerprinted if they wish to renew study visas. Liverpool 25th November: Defy ID cards - No One is Illegal

On 25th November, the government will begin introducing ID cards for non-EU nationals living in the UK. We invite all opponents of social control to join us at a protest in Liverpool outside Reliance House (the Border Agency’s offices and a short-term immigration prison) at 12 noon on that day. Reliance House is one of the six centres in the UK for ID cards processing. Other groups campaigning against ID cards on that day are Manchester NO2ID and Liverpool Defy ID and we hope to see Merseyside No Borders activists there as well.

We will travel there as a group, meet at 9am on the steps of the Student Union of Manchester University, Oxford Road. We will try to get everyone into minibuses leaving from there or take the train together from Oxford Road station (£6.20 return with railcard) if there are too many of us.
In Liverpool, assemble in Exchange Flats at 11am and then move around the corner to Reliance House, 20 Water Street, L2 8XU, for the protest from noon to 1pm.

THIS THURSDAY 13th November, there is a planning meeting in Liverpool for an action. 7pm at the Liverpool Social Centre, next to News From Nowhere bookshop, 96 Bold Street, Liverpool L1 4HY.

The action will take place on Tuesday 25th November, the first day on which foreign nationals will be interrogated and processed onto the Government's Database State.
