to coincide with the preparatory UN meeting for the Copenhagen "WHAT NEXT AFTER "KYOTO" RUNS OUT" big, globally crucial "once-in-ten-years" ( but-we-mightnt-get-a-next-ten-years ) time when the worlds signatories to Kyoto prepare the documents etc for Copenhagen itself.
( after the USAs election, post-campaign but prior to the actual inauguration, is also when diplomats etc "reset their clocks/ mental images of the world " . . . when a heck of a lot of people, imagination, etc on the streets could have a seriously useful effect . . . hence worth thinking about doing a little bit at the moment to put a mention of it into that mailout, onto the website calendar, putting it onto the Womens Institute meetings agenda - or yours !

ISS offices visited by RMT and No Borders.

On Thursday the RMT called a demo outside the offices of ISS, a contractor that employs London Underground cleaners. Not only had there been a lot of bullying and intimidation of union reps and members by management. But to hit a new low, ISS had been exploiting new immigration rules to arrange ‘appointments’ for their employees, many of whom are immigrants and refugees. In some case that could mean people being deported to torture and death.

The RMT were also joined by No Borders and other supporters who briefly occupied the lobby of the firm. Police were called and those inside where removed. They continued the demonstration outside where they made a hell of a racket for quite some time. One person was arrested for reasons unknown.

Twitter is dead - free sms alerts for the UK ended

Sad news indeed, twitter.com have pulled their free sms 'mini blogging' service from Europe saying it is costing them as much as £500 per year for each subscribed person. Those of us who have been using the service as a communications tool for activism will now have to revert to paying to send mass texts and that means the kind of regular news updates that have been done for climate camp etc will be too expensive to bother.
