Protest against the detention of Babi Badalov
No Borders South Wales | 18.09.2008 02:00 | Migration
Over 50 people gathered outside the place where Babi was grabbed 24 short hours earlier, holding banners and placards. Amongst the were Leanne Wood AM, deputy leader of Cardiff Council Neil McEvoy, as well as many of Babi’s closest friends.
After the protest a number of friends went up to Rumney police station and were able to pass a card to Babi containing messages of support. While no ones was allowed in to see him on this occasion, we did manage to speak to him during the protest as well as later in the day. He was clearly uplifted by all the support that he has received. However, overall, he is still very low. He remains extremely frightened about the prospect of being deported and his incarceration is clearly having an effect on his increasingly fragile mental health.
