Free 'The Saloniki 7' - Demonstration in London

maqui | 29.10.2003 15:50 | Thessaloniki EU | Repression | Social Struggles | London

On Monday 27 October there were two protests outside the Greek Embassy in London in solidarity with Simon Chapman and six other people imprisoned in Greece. The 'Saloniki 7' have been in jail since last June, when the mobilisations against the EU Summit took place in Thessaloniki. They have been refused bail under Greek "antiterrorist" legislation and they are now facing between 7 and 25 years imprisonment.

Five of the 7 prisoners are currently on hungerstrike protesting the circumstances of their arrests and imprisonment. Four of them have been without any food for 24 days, whilst Suleiman "Castro" Dakduk has already been on a hunger strike for 37 days.

Thessoloniki 7/Simon Chapman

03.11.2003 10:02

I am calling on all that support Simon and all those locked up with him to get out on to the streets like myself and do a George Davis campaign. George Davis in the 1970s dug up a football pitch, and during his stay in custody a graffitti campaign began throughout the UK "FREE GEORGE DAVIS" due to this being seen everywhere, people started asking who George Davis was and it kept coming up on the news, I would like to see this happening for Simon Chapman who is a very good friend of mine as well as those banged up with him in Greece.
I have also started a drama workshop each and every Tuesday 7.30-10pm at the Mission social centre 91 Eastwat, Hackney Wick, London E9 £3.00 working £2.00 for those who think working for shit money is SHIT, proceeds go to aid Simon Chapman, my contact number is 0797 353 6682 for anyone interested.
Directions to the mission social centre North London line from Highbury and Islington to Hackney Wick, Buses 30, 26, 236, 388.
Classes in Improvisation, monologues, ad-libing, stage presence, movement, leading up to future productions, look forward to seeing people there.

All the best Patrick.
