Today Merseyside Police Chiefs were told by the CPS that police marksmen would not face criminal proceedings for the shooting of Andrew Kernan outside his home in Liverpool.
Merseyside Police - Getting away with murder?
Andrew Kernan was shot dead outside of his flat in Liverpool’s, Wavertree, Wellington Road area. After the killing in July last year Greater Manchester Police launched an inquiry at the request of the Police Complaints Authority.
They interviewed more than 300 people and compiled a huge dossier. That file was passed to the Crown Prosecution Service who had to decide if any police officers involved would be charged with a criminal offence. Today they told both Marie Kernan and Merseyside police chiefs that no action would be taken.
Marie Kernan said: "I have waited a long time for this decision and hoped that justice would finally be done…but they have basically said it is okay to shoot and kill an innocent person…Andrew was left for dead like an animal and the people who did it should be made to pay for what they did."
