Nuclear-Free Future Walk - London to Geneva - Apr-Jul 2008

Following on from this year's successful 900-mile Nuclear-Free Future Walk from Dublin to London, organised by Footprints for Peace, the same group will be staging another this year from London to Geneva, through France. The UK stretch will go from London to Portsmouth, starting on 26 April, the anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

Does CrossRail hole plot-backer UK minister Bassam have the honesty?

On Monday 7 January 2008, a transport minister in the 'house of lords' in London spoke by recognizing the role inn the UK of European convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. He refrained from using the full title of the conventions. But his words in fact referred to the constitutional framework that exists in practice under the UK's treaty obligations [dating back to 1950]. So does the minister himself practise his apparent affiliation to the conventions? Not really, if the evidence of his behaviour in promoting the crossrail hole plots is anything to go by.

a petition was delivered this morning to 10 downing street by an assortment of cross-party mps, a peer, a turner prize artist, a comedian, and several other activists. in the run-up to the end of the government's 'consultation' on 'managing protest near parliament', the petition calls for a repeal of the 'socpa' law that has criminalised so many peaceful protests, and a call for no further police powers over protest. Support Repatriation of Noel Maguire Irish Political Prisoner

I wish through your media outlet to bring attention to a grave injustice being perpetrated against an Irish Citizen by his own government, Noel Maguire is seeking repatriation back to Ireland from an English jail to serve the remainder of his sentence in the country of his birth and to be closer to his family. The refusal by the Irish government in accepting Noel’s application seems to be stripping him of his Irish Citizenship and the civil rights that are associated with it. Read more >>
