The incoming Con-Dem government has confirmed its commitment to scrap the National Identity Register (NIR) and ID cards for UK citizens. Whilst those who have been campaigning against the ID database naturally welcome the end of these particularly unpleasant and invasive aspects of the surveillance state, there is plenty to be cautious about.

If anything was going to put thoughtful people off this action, silly rhetoric like that does the trick. It’s like trying to build opposition to Donald Trump’s plans to turn acres of sand dunes near Aberdeen into a golf course for the rich, or golf courses in general, by urging people to imagine a future without grass.

Area 4 Neighbourhood Management Team of Nottingham City Council has proposed a CCTV scheme for Forest Fields. Supported by the police a public meeting was held from 6.30pm until 8pm on Thursday April 23 at Djanogly City Academy on Gregory Boulevard.

Iris scans for mental health service users

The Wells Road Centre, used by mental health service users, introduced iris scanning to control access to the building in January this year. This was, ostensibly, to keep users of the building safe. The scheme has already been discontinued because it was found to be a waste of money.
