A glimpse of national ID card enforcement

19-10-2006 14:01 | Education | Repression | Technology | Nottinghamshire

University of Westminster shows the way in ID card enforcement! This university's marketing slogan is most revealing - "educating for a professional life", they say. With a basic principle of compulsory carrying of cards, a 'three strikes' policy to deny you entry to premises & services if you forget your card, and making it a disciplinary offence if you refuse to show one, this kind of education will most certainly be invaluable for future life if the government gets away with introducing its national ID policy.

26-08-2006 07:34 | Bio-technology | Technology | Workers' Movements | Nottinghamshire | World

from main page first reported in uk indy national site & gm watch, also Radio Nottingham recently. If anyone has details of these potato crops please put them up on indymedia so people know where they are & can protect their own crops & genes. But how many people also know that the recent monster elephant man drugs were genetic medicine made by german Biotech company Tegenero.
Nottingham has its own biocity with gm companies & connection to nanotechnology etc next to the bbc island on london road, as there are no safety regulations what happens to people nearby if dangerous particles escape or there is an accident?

Alarming rise of Children’s ID databases and biometrics in schools

21-08-2006 23:47 | Education | Repression | Technology | Cambridge | Nottinghamshire

Video Iris-scanning - one example of biometrics used in schools
On top of ID cards and the move to NHS electronic records, another major government plan with a potential for hideous invasion of privacy and loss of personal freedom comes out of the Children Act (2004). The new Act allows the setting up of incredibly invasive databases by the Secretary of State and/or children's services authorities in England. At the same time pupils and parents are getting more vocal and organised in their protests against the alarming rate of introduction of biometric systems in schools. These have included fingerprinting (and even iris scanning) of children for school dinners, attendance registers, and use of libraries or ‘learning resource centres’.

As you can see from the the links below, other 'multi-bike' and trailers have been made.

Here are a series of pictures, to show some of the important features, and progress.

Simple eh?

28-03-2006 18:34 | Ecology | Health | Social Struggles | Technology | Nottinghamshire

Video
This short video voices the views of Nottingham residents about the Eastcroft Incinerator and the plans to expand the facilities. The three incinerators on the site burn most of Nottingham's household waste - including recyclable materials. They also incinerate industrial waste including reject cigarettes, plastics, chemicals, tyres, PVC, animal tissues etc. On the site there is also a clinical waste incinerator that burns hospital waste including low-level radioactive waste.
